That's exactly what I do with my stupid tv. Maybe my tv and I are a perfect match! No comments please.:chickendance:

Sorry AK... I can't help myself.... I heartily agree! It's okay to stay in the stone age. (note that I didn't say "stoned age!"):hystery:

(Er... and please note that I meant that with ALL due respect, sir!)

Glad I remain predictable and still in character, AK. I am still trying to give you a bit of a run for your money here regarding attitude...:6:

I only download what I want to watch from the pirate sites. No pay tv except for the Cignal which is close to useless. I'm seriously considering canceling my Cignal. I'm paying almost 2k per month for garbage.

I'm surprised to hear you say that about Cignal AK.  It's not the best , agreed, but on a par with what I was watching in Hong Kong and on free TV in the UK (well, almost).  I have the 1050php package - I wouldn't consider the 2 higher plans because the extra channels are few and not worth paying for IMO.

There are a lot of repeats though, but it's well worth the money for me given i can supplement the movies with Netflix and Amazon Video.

Abenson looked like a good choice, especially since they have many stores all over Luzon. So we ordered a 50" TCL and it should get delivered by Christmas. I did it online and was able to use my VISA. Delivery was an extra 1200 peso's. They have a store close enough that my inlaws could have done a pick up but that store was out of stock of the TV we wanted to order. Still if there is a problem the store is close enough for warranty work.

My wife had wanted to buy a TV in the US because they cost so much less and ship it. Our normal balikbayan shipper wants $165 to ship a large TV and then it takes 2-3 months. So this was a great option for us. Plus they might get it by Christmas.

Thanks to all those who replied.

Abenson was good to their word, delivery by LBC of the TV was first attempted on Dec 24. But there was a mixup. We gave delivery instructions for the name and address of a family friend at their sari sari store. But the delivery tried to use my name instead. Since no one was there of that name they would not deliver. And the person there did not realize that it was the delivery we had asked them to receive. So the TV was just sitting at the local LBC office. After tracking the package online via LBC we called them to discuss the problem then sent an email to Abenson to get them to contact LBC to get the TV delivered. In the end it all worked out. Just not delivered before Christmas. Haven't heard back yet on how the TCL 50" TV works. Overall very satisfied with the purchase process. Cost about the same as if we had bought a TV here in the US and shipped it there. Benefit of buying it from Abenson is that the family will have a store close enough to them that they can get service if needed.

I used to buy just the brand names that I liked, TCL, Sony, Samsung. They all come from China and are made the same way so I just started buying the cheaper ones. They work just as well.:shades:

I only have two non-smart TVs, but each has an Xbox 360E attached though HDMI cable. The Xboxes also have (PLDT 25meg) fibre internet input, both wired and wifi. (Standard Xboxes). Also they have USB inputs for playing stuff downloaded from laptop and phone. Also are on my local home network. 500gb hard drives.

These are pretty cheap secondhand now.

I just took a couple of pics of some of the stuff available to me.  There are lots more.

Not sure whether I need a 'smart TV' .
