Plywood for Cabinets

I thought I would start a new thread on this so Gary and Tommy's house build threads don't get completely hijacked.

Here are the pictures of my neighbor's kitchen, again.

He said it is cabinet grade birch and according to what I see, it is from Russia.  They have some other nice stuff on their website.

Edit: I was chatting with them.  He said they paid 40k to the cabinet maker I know, labor only.  Then they supplied the wood and hardware.  The hardware is Hafele that they got at Wilcon.  They are very happy with the cabinets.  The counters are concrete and he is not so happy with them, so he is redoing them.  And he still has to add backsplashes.

Here are their details  info@filtratimber.com  (02) 570-5750 (Warehouse / Main office), or (02) 478-6888 (Makati).

All of the out of sight wood on our kitchen is marine ply with a mahogany beading on the edges, the decore panals and doors are solid mahogany, all of the doors being single planks. We paid the furniture company 49k for the cabinets plus the handles from Ace hardware were anotber 8k. The granite counter tops were another 40k. These are all installed prices. We then paid just under 100k for the appliances and sink.

Looks nice Gary. And sounds like high quality wood in the cabinets too.

Just curious... I assume your oven is propane? Does it also have a broiler function? I am finding it difficult to find decent stove/oven combos with broiler as part of the oven.

We had those white CR vanity cabinets in the parents house and our rental.  Both cabinets are delaminating due to the humidity.  When we redid the CR here in our house I built my own vanity.  The cabinet is marine ply with the top and doors being solid mahogany.  I needed to cut the mahogany strips 20/1000 of inch in order to create the basket weave for the doors.  Treated with clear solignum, followed by two coats of Hudson topcoat.   I also built a mirror to match with mahogany frame.

No the oven is electric convection as that is what Tess is used to, the hob is propane. The hood venting will have to wait until we return from the UK currently planned for the end of August, just can't get the concealed trunking here in the Philippines. Also still outstanding are the decor panels above and below the oven and to conceal the extractor hood. Now it's all fitted they can be measured for size.

We have a La Germania with 5 propane hobs and propane convection oven, but it has electric broiler elements in the oven.  We use the broiler more than the oven!  We have had it almost 4 years without any issues.  We bought it at Abenson.

We also bought a La Germania.  3 of the burners are gas, 1 burner is electric, over is electric with a broiler & rotisserie.

Our whirlpool oven has a rotisserie and heating elements in the top. I've heard of broiling but have no idea what it is, is it an American thing. Our oven in the UK has top elements but that is for grilling, I haven't looked but assumed this oven was the same although thinking about it there's no grill pan.

I think it is most likely the same but we use different words?  Broiling is using the upper element only at the highest temperature, usually for meat.  About half way through you flip the meat so it looks like it was grilled.  I have also used it for quickly toasting garlic bread and giving it a nice color and crunch without drying out the bread.  Damn, now I am making myself hungry for a good steak with a side of garlic bread.   Maybe Tommy will invite us over.

Sounds like a plan.
