East West Bank

My wife has a BDO account into which I regularly deposit cash from her farming and catering business. But our local branch is always very busy with long wait times for a teller.
There is an East West Bank branch just a few minutes walk from us, and every time I walk past, especially on my way to join the queue at BDO, it always seems empty. That would seem to be a very convenient alternative to our BDO branch. But I wonder why it is always so quiet? They have quite a few branches all over the Philippines.

Has anyone any experience of them?

I have not used them but I have noted that different banks here have different volumes of customer, and even the same bank within a couple of hundred metres or so can vary hugely.  At the end of the year I went to a BPI to deposit some cash - I took a ticket and joined the longggggggg queue.  I gave up after 15-20 minutes - saw too many queue jumpers and the numbers only going down every 4 or 5 minutes.  I walked a few hundred metres and was able to be seen immediately in another BPI branch.

I have seen that also. Unfortunately it is not really an option where I am. The nearest alternative BDO is a 20 minute drive into town, and unless the Gods are smiling on me, impossible to park. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who has any experience of East West, which seems a much more convenient alternative.

No but I guess best to start with their fees ETC to see if it suits you. Do you have a PS bank there?

Thanks Tom. We do have a PSB here, but the nearest branch is a good 30 minute drive away. The East West Bank  branch local to me is just a five minute walk, on the way to an SM Mall. I think I might open an account anyway. It’s only a savings account. I was just curious to see if any forumites had any experience of them.

As I recall East West bank is owned by the large real estate developer Filinvest bank. Its classified as a Rural Bank, only a Filipino can have an account, at least that is what they told me when I also applied to open an account. Maybe this varies from town to town.

My partner opened an account there for reasons mentioned by the OP and appears to be quite normal.

Exactly why I don't mind paying ATM fees. I don't have the time at my age to stand in line when I could be at home watching porn!:hystery:

Thanks RBM. That might explain why there are no queues in the local branch. I will investigate further. My wife can open an account. It’s her money I am depositing anyway.
