there is a lot of talk about corruption here with local LGUS

The next 5 years will be nothing of charge and counter charge of corruption by public officials. Happens after every disaster (or change of political party in power) :whistling:

I assumed they would extend it to at least the end of the month. Glad to see that they did.

LOL, not really.. End of April right it's way too long . Hoping after the lockdown the government must comeup with a good solutions and better measures to avoid more spike. And hoping end of April the confirmed cases will be lower .

If anyone thinks that this is going to be over in a couple of weeks they are living in a place where unicorns fart rainbows i.e. Happy place with no grasp of reality.  Most governments that are taking this seriously are talking September as a best case scenario.

The Philippines are between a rock and a hard place, they need to keep the lockdown to stop community transmission but they can't keep the lockdown because people need to eat and the government can't afford to feed them.  A first world country might manage a 3 month lockdown with gradual easing of restrictions afterwards (similar to what's happenin in Wuhan now) but how long can the Philippines manage that without lots of outside help.  And there are poor countries all over the world competing for the limited help that's available.  Most first world countries can't even meet their own requirements so they'll not be helping much for a while.

Looking around at various media outlets but mainly social media the Philippines is going to get hammered by this virus and no amount of quarantine is going to fix it.  Hospitals and medical facilities are already swamped and the country has just had to go cap in hand to the World bank for a loan.

The LGU are proving to be next to useless at dishing out emergency aid which is already inadequate, and even if it gets to the poor the population is getting poorer daily as most have already used their savings up.  If the quarantine stops at the end of the month just so locals can get back to work the main income of the Philippines tourism will take a long time to recover, and long before it recovers the virus will have spread out of control again.  Then what will they do, bring another quarantine in to slow it down again?

Take a look at the main tourist sites, The workers have gone home to their provinces and cities. The provinces haven't got the testing facilities or medical care to stop the virus and the cities are just too heavily populated to stop it spreading.  The minute the quarantine is lifted some of the workers will bring the virus to the tourist places and start the spread all over again.

Horrible though it may sound but I think the only thing that will stop the virus here isn't quarantine it's herd immunity.  Let the virus run rampant, kill off those it can and the rest should become immune.  I'd hazzard an educated guess less will die this way than trying to kill it off with an unachievable quarantine.

At the moment trying to control it so it can be managed and probably buying time in the hope a vaccine will be released.
