The New Normal (Philppine style)

One massive change I have noticed is zero videoke since March 17th.  The locals have always told me videoke is their culture and it'll never change, but in reality it's more of being in fashion than a culture thing.  It probably only goes back to the 80's and 90's in many places, later for some.  I think it's more the alcohol was the culture and that brings the videoke out in them.  I'm speeking from a perspective of videoke where only the family are present not where all their friends come around to socialise. In my area there could be 6 videokes within 200m and each one attended by 4 people.

Thanks KJ,  I've been an expat in the RP over 10 years, from Bogo to Naga and everywhere in between. Joined up for the helpful quarantine info.

Welcome Shady.  We hope you stick around even after this pandemic is behind us and things return to some semblance of normal, regardless of what that  normal becomes.

Yesterday and the day before, my neighbor  had a birthday party for a baby. of course they had a videoke blaring out, can't say if there was alcohol present but there was 8 or more people there. But why two days?

Not really Snowy, before the advent of karaoke, it was Communal Singing with whatever instruments people could get hold  and /or play, many people tell us that the Philippines are to a large degree Tribal, Tribal gatherings are and have always been Noisy, it is what it is :whatever:

L tells me it's because they rent the machine for 24 hours. So it is picked up or delivered at, say 2 pm one day, then they have it until 2 pm the next day. They are determined to get their value out of it....

Here in Davao, right now, there is a mayoral policy that there are to be no loud parties. We are both enjoying the lack of karaoke. One of the few positive things about this virus?

So they must have rented for 2 days ( 48 hours) as Jim's neighbours partied for 2 nights :89:
