There have been a few incidents of people drowning while using the new type of snorkeling mask, because of the mask (the type illustrated above). I won't be using it.

I was a fully qualified diver many moons ago but managed to rupture an ear drum whilst in a decompression chamber. No more diving.

Anyhow, I was going to comment about those  new type snorkeling mask. They don't look safe at all. What happens when water enters inside the mask, you have to clear the water out by blowing air into the mask. an inexperience snorkeler could panic when descending and the mask got filled with water.

Can you post proof.... No fact checked  news allowed on here... 😂.... I have one of those masks, I think it's great, can't understand how you could drown using one anymore than with a normal snorkel

Here you go.

I was aware of the CO2 build up issue, that seems to be an issue with the cheap copies of the full face mask but not all types (see the Aussie ninja shark version linked Below https://ninjashark.com.au/pages/equaliser-package

They are purely snorkeling masks for shallow snorkeling not diving masks so clearing using air isn’t really applicable.

I haven’t tried one yet because I’d have to shave my beard to get a seal...

I've used one and to be honest it made me light headed and short of breath. I class myself as a strong swimmer and can hold my breath underwater for a few minutes but found if I dived below the surface with one on then surfaced and blew out any water within a few seconds I was gasping for air.  Not a nice feeling at all, I had to rip it off and lay on my back to catch my breath again.

We're finally seeing some light at the end of our tunnel here on Panay Island.

https://www.panaynews.net/no-more-border-restrictions-easy-travel-within-wv-begins-june-1/

The new MGCQ will begin tomorrow, and my 4 year old trapped guest will get to see her mother and lola this upcoming week, since Ceres Buses  can begin crossing the provincial borders with limited passenger numbers.  The little one has been with us for 4 months and now doesn't want to go back home to her mom and lola because they spank her when she's makulit, so she says. Ha ha. In truth, she has had a nice vacation here since we have spoiled her.

The 'One Panay' includes Guimaras, but no travel allowed across the strait to Bacolod in Negros Occidental, despite it being in Region 6, since it adjoins N.Occ.

First long rains came twice in the last several days, and the nearby rice fields are starting to be tilled. Many local family gardens are doing well after 6-8 weeks and some SAP money was distributed last week. Hopefully this week will see a high level of local normalization for the first time since mid-March. Restoring public transportation will prove a challenge due to passenger limitations.

Yesterday several families jumped the start gun and went to the City Park Beach.  They were quite angry when the PNP rounded  them up, put them in their trucks and took them to the main station house.

When the main outdoor market opened last week, the wife got some new live traps to deal with the rice field rats that have been running across our roofs and driving to move in with us. Caught 4 within 2 days and another this morn, so I am happy we won't have to put up with that irritation for awhile.

This morn when she went down to the sala, the neighborhood cat was sleeping on a bamboo chair cushion. She quickly figured out how the boarder had gotten in and had tito close it up.

If you have a decent place to live and food, its not only relatives that want to  come live with you here in the Islands. Ha-ha.

Carbine dioxide inside the mask, you must have been breathing your own exhausted breath. If you had carried on breathing in your own breath, you would have passed out.

They should be banned.

It could be that some are ok, possibly the original branded ones, and there are a lot of unsafe knockoffs. I have never tried one.  If an inexperienced swimmer had the problems Snowy described, I could see them panicking and drowning.  Experienced swimmers, not likely.

When will the lockdown end?  I don't know, but I want to stay on topic.
