GeoffH Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 (edited) It should be noted that this drug (useful as it is) only reduces the rate of fatalities in infected people who are already seriously or critically sick, that reduction is clinically significant but not what the general public would think of as a 'cure'. It cuts the risk of death of patients on ventilators by one third (and reduces the risk to patients on suplemental oxygen by one fifth). The risk to patients on ventilation with Covid has variously been quoted as between 25% and 33% so it would reduce the fatality rate of ventilated patients to between 16% and 22% which is definitely worthwhile but it's 'not a cure'. And being a corticosteroid it would seem that it's likely acting not directly upon the virus but on the cytokine storm which causes many of the issues in serious cases. Still... it is good news. Better than nothing, Nobody says it's a cure Geoff. All the information is in the link.
Tim Gard Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I an a newby on this site. I moved to the Philippines about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I was scheduled this Spring to get my citizenship here. I plan to finish my life here. I was in an earlier time in my life, a college trained EMT volunteer for my local town. I was trained in advanced emergency medicine. I was also an instructor for Red Cross advanced first aid and CPR. I spent a couple years part time in a local college studying emergency medicine. So my point of view from the medical is advanced. But I have some serious considerations for all of you. Red pill serious questions. #1 - Why is it that only a single identified strand of 'virus' shows up every year? Is there a yearly virus meeting where they vote in the next seasons winning virus? So why in such a diverse world do we only have a single virus every season? #2 - What was different this year that resulted in shutting down the entire world destroying millions of lives, businesses, and even countries? #3 - Who gains the most from the total shut down and destruction of our previous way of life? (No answer to this one, just a question) #4 - And the top question for me, will my Social Security disappear? I would be lost without it as my previous business was given to my ex-wife leaving me broke! I can not help but feel as though we are all being played by some powerful people in the background. Should we adapt the 'every man for himself attitude"?

Why do you think that? It's not so far fetched that a virus spread around the world - either from a lab or from animals, they've both happened before.

Because of the unverified deaths, and the grandstanding of non-related incidents that effect the worlds over reaction. And like I said, flu viruses are nothing new on this planet. There have been flu attacks every year for as long as history records. Many much worse then this. Then there is the bazaar DNA sequencing ... If it does, that means that the USA has disappeared. I think that little green men will land before that happens, at least in my life time. So why worry about it 3 hours ago, Tim Gard said: I can not help but feel as though we are all being played by some powerful people in the background. JJReyes Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 We still need to wait for a vaccine before life returns to normal. I have been monitoring developments in several countries including the United States, Great Britain and Israel. In my opinion, Israel is ahead because they are accelerating the testing stage. Hopefully, the first vaccine will become available before the end of 2020.

I think we'll see large scale trials of vaccines completed by the end of 2020 but us being able to actually buy one from a pharmacy will take longer I suspect. There is going to be huge demand and limited supply.
