I didn't ask because I know the answer and if you'd read my linked information you'd realize I was pointing out that the value of (non respirator N95/N99) masks lies not in their ability to protect the wearer (which is indeed minimal) but in their value in protecting other people.

My (implied) question to you (and I shouldn't have had to spell it out) was in fact "On what basis do you believe that masks 'do very little to stop a virus' in a Pandemic situation such as the one we are currently facing and why?"

For reference supporting my comment about masks and SARS Cov 19-2 (noting that the study supports my contention that mask wearing does in fact reduce transmission with a higher correlation for N95 respirators than for Surgical masks which is to be expected).

in your cited study ... " Face mask use could result in a large reduction in risk of infection " Focus on the word could. A flack jacket could protect you from a bullet. 'Could' is enough to wear one, because a little protection is better then nothing. And these were face masks constructed how? Not using an old scarf. Way too many weak variables to expect true effectiveness.

There is a basic fact in this report, I agree. But let me explain the issue. The suggestion is that the mask will protect to some extent the wearer. But that is not that effective, while certainly better then nothing. Like covering your head with a newspaper in a rain storm. You will be less wet probably, but not likely to avoid all the rain. A virus requires a full enclosed suit to be 100% effective, while wearing a plastic full face covering is somewhere in between.

The virus itself is very tiny, and requires a droplet of fluid like exhaled sneeze to transmit. So does wearing a mask reduce the likelihood of infection? Very little. Does wearing a mask reduce you from infecting others. More so, but again, very little. 

These are not idol speculations, and if you study infectious disease control, you will see that the huge scare about this pandemic seems way out of real life focus. This was a very important points driven home during my medical studies.

I am appalled by all of the destruction caused by the response to this. It was the hyped fear that did all the really bad things, the virus was just what flu viruses have always been for thousands of years. The vast majority of the damage by this one was man-made in the response unfortunately. (The reactions, not saying the flu itself). So many people have lost so much. They didn't last year or many years previously. What was  different this year?

Well you insult everyone in almost all your posts. You say your research is the truth and you know more than anyone but what's to say your research is any better than the so called experts and you gave no information on your research other than to say no one asked why your an expert and everyone else is dumb.

As I said in a post in this topic that this forum is for expats living or wanting to live or visit the Philippines so take your arguments  debates and shove them where you like.
