But only for "couples" and you have to have one of these ridiculous shields.  Can you imagine how difficult it would be to hold onto that "sail" at any kind of speed, or have it blow you right off the bike.  Not to mention your hands are no longer available to grip in case of bumps, etc.  Notice that the photo shows the bike on the stand.  Makes me wonder if anyone has actually tried to use one while moving.  :whistling:

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The national government is set to allow motorcycle backriding for couples on July 10, Department of the Interior and Local Governmet (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said on Thursday, July 9.

In an interview with dzMM on Thursday morning, Año said the government's national task force against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has approved the recommendation of Bohol Governor Arthur Yap that couples should be allowed to share a a motorcycle.

How will it be implemented? Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that backriding will only be allowed for married couples and the motorcycle they are riding must have a "shield" similar to the one designed by Governor Yap

He even flashed a photo of the prototype during his press briefing.

That is way too sensible and already available.  Better to have something ridiculous that someone dreamed up and never tested.  :whistling:

As silly as having a married couple sit 1 meter apart while dining at a restaurant. (might be a good idea if you have been married a long long time  :hystery:) We went to our favorite Japanese restaurant yesterday. Temp check, wash hands, fill out a form, sit at a table made for 4, sitting opposite and kitty corner from each other. On the up side, lots of room for the different dishes when they all arrive at once

We were over in Olongapo just a while ago.  I would say that in general, Olongapo residents are very compliant to the face mask rules.  Social distancing, not bad, depending on where and if there is enforcement.  Many places have security enforcing social distancing.

We were headed home and I see 3 teenage boys on one motorcycle.  No masks.  They all had the same orange hair with K-pop style haircuts.  They did not seem to be worried about any enforcement of the many rules they were breaking.  Typical.  In that area, they would have to pass several traffic enforcers, but I doubt that they enforce anything.

I can't wait to see the rider try to fuel up with the approved Yap shield fitted.  Obviously there was zero trials on this stupid invention.

Everything depends on where you are in the Philippines

July 10, 2020
ALTHOUGH backriding on motorcycles is now allowed again, the officials from the Department of the Interior and Local Government Central Visayas (DILG 7) and the traffic enforcers have yet to implement backriding guidelines.

On July 9, 2020, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año announce that motorcycle backriding for couples will be permitted starting Friday, July 10, 2020.

However, Michael Braga, DILG 7 information officer, in a text message sent to SunStar Cebu, said that as of Friday afternoon, they have yet to receive instructions or guidelines on the resumption of the motorcycle backriding for couples in areas under general community quarantine and modified general community quarantine.

In Mandaue City, Arnold Malig-on, the Traffic Enforcer Agency of Mandaue (Team) operations chief, told Sunstar Cebu that they have not implemented backriding since there is no official memorandum from the DILG.

Malig-on said that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be the one to make the guidelines to be implemented.

He said once the guidelines from the PNP will be handed out to them, they will implement them.

On July 9, the traffic enforcers spotted several couples that have started to backride on motorcycles on their way to work.

As they have not yet received the guidelines, Malig-on said they would only call out the motorcyclists with their partners to inform them that Mandaue City has not yet implemented the backriding rules.

Most of these riders are from the mountain barangays of Mandaue City.

“We did not apprehend them nor did we issue any citation,” said Malig-on.

Although backriding is allowed, Malig-on clarified that they will still not allow any motorcycle for hire or “habal-habal” to operate.

He added that none of the backriding couples have set up a barrier on the motorcyle, as what Año recommended.

In Malig-on’s opinion, wearing masks should be enough to protect the couples from each other and a barrier is unnecessary.

He assumes that the barriers may cause accidents or will be inconvenient for the motorcyclists when refueling

Utter unscientific stupidity.... but what's new ? :whatever:

Married couples also need to carry proof of that. Er, they forgot that OTHER types of co-habiting  couples were included in the 'freed-up' regs.

.

Meanwhile, answering such idiocy with an appropriate response....
