Permanent Resident Visa

Hello,

My wife and I will relocate from Georgia to Biliran Island, eastern Visayas as soon as our house is finished and I was thinking about applying for a permanent resident visa. My wife was born in the Philippines but is now a US citizen. Will she have to have duel citizenship in order for me to qualify for permanent residence?

Thanks,

Jovy & David

Welcome to the forum.  Yes she will be required to reacquire her Philippine citizenship prior to your application for a 13A visa.

It is a pretty simple process. I advise that you keep an eye on the nearest Philippine consulate web page. They should announce when and where their roving teams will be. If i remember correctly all we did was fill out some forms at the visit, then made one trip to the consulate a few weeks later for the swearing in.

Nice quiet place.  Have you been there yet?

Always looking to improve my PI geographic knowledge, Naval, Biliran seems like a nice small city from what I read. It does have a hospital, clinics, labs and 5 daily flights to Cebu. I think its connected to Tacloban and Ormoc by bridge if you want to shop in the larger nearby Leyte cities. I hope I got that right.  Probably a nice quiet place. Hope they have an expat population there so you can socialize easily. Best wishes for the future.

Might want to check out your internet access.  I have a friend of many years here who relocated under duress to Camigun Island off the N. coast of CDO, Mindanao. One of his problems is on-line access from his home sites (2) there so he can only write me when he goes to a tourist lodge.... which he does to socialize with other expats.  Its one of the few things that keeps him sane, so he says.

Yes she will, my wife got her dual citizenship when we lived in the UK before coming back to live here in Philippines. Can she not apply in the US for her dual citizenship?

Camiguan Island is beautiful, it's my favourite holiday destination that's closeish to Cagayan De Oro.

However you are correct, Internet access outside of the towns on the island is... poor to non-existent (and not that good even in them).

But screwed if theres ever a problem with the only  bridge in, and out.

Spent two weeks there and whilst most islands are well served with supermarket, local palengke etc, Naval, the " capital" seemed to really lacking in a supermarket that would stock things you might want to eat , other than endless tins of pork and beans. Maybe its improved as it was a nice enough island with a couple great waterfalls.

I believe you have two visa choices for a permanent resident visa, a 13A spousal visa if your wife is a Philippine citizen or a SRRV visa.

Spent 3 years there myself.  I left after Yolanda.  The island gets typhoons every year and more rain than I like.  A friend of mine told me I would never come back.  I said:  Sure I will.  "There are good people here.  I will come back to visit."

He said the only reason Foreigners spend any amount of time on Biliran is because of a woman.  He was right.  I haven't been back.
