OnMyWay Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 A friend gave me a heads up that I will pass along. The U.S. IRS is expiring many ITINs at the end of 2020. If your wife or child is on your tax return using an ITIN, you need to make sure it is not expiring before you use it again. My friend's coworker's wife is Japanese and her ITIN expired last year. They did not realize it and used it. That cause his taxes to be messed up and they said he owed a lot. He had to get the ITIN renewed and file an amended return. So, check your ITIN: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/itin-expiration-faqs?fbclid=IwAR3VkB_h7oNSQwZCRfIyKtjnypWZXFSCP_LMBnYpSDYMoo-cfs2GjwrkFUg My wife's is OK for now. I'm not sure how often they do this, but it is something to be aware of. It says they send notices, but who knows if you will get it in the Philippines.
