Jollygoodfellow Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Come on you guys, yes your not Filipino but do your bit Filipinos, stop having sex during the lockdown. It's ruining many women's lives. While most of the world is trying to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines has to juggle between handling the virus outbreak and an "epidemic" of unplanned pregnancies. According to The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the rate of pregnancies in the Philippines could increase by 751,000 (42 percent) to reach a total of 2.6 million. This means that the Philippines could possibly have an additional population on top of the current population of 106.7 million if the lockdown persists. Maternal deaths are on the rise too with quarantine measures restricting women from accessing family planning needs. “These numbers are an epidemic in itself,” said Aimee Santos, UNFPA program officer. Even post-pandemic, the Philippines government has been trying to control its rapidly growing population numbers. I read an article in Australia recently saying that a survey had showed there had been an increase in sex since lockdown started but that there was not expected to be an increase in population growth (as per the baby boomers) because of the almost universal use of birth control (not surprising).

Jack Peterson Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 I will just add this; 2020 may end up seeing 18,000 more Filipino teenage girls getting pregnant because of the indirect effects of COVID-19, compared to 2019.
