Forum Support Old55 Posted December 1, 2020 Author Forum Support Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Back to topic; Is your "homeland" health insurance applicable to care in Philippines? I see some US Medicare plans can be used while visiting Philippines. Any full time US Expats with experience using Medicare in Filipino hospital? I don't think it's unusual to have a local language requirement as part of citizenship requirements. Sure, English is an official language of the Philippines but not the official language of the Philippines. The national language is Filipino (pretty much Tagalog) as per the constitution.

I'm with you on that HK. Requiring a reasonable proficiency in the national language isn't too much to ask for. However there are three major Filipino languages. Bisya, Tagalog and English. Is Tagalog actually the national language? Not to be argumentative I'm just not sure.

I agree that it's difficult to pick a national language but maybe they should stick to their constitution and have Filipino? It's a derivative of Tagalog so why not?
Snowy79 Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 If you scroll down the Government site it lists English and Filipino based on Tagalog as the official languages. https://thehaguepe.dfa.gov.ph/79-about-us/98-general-information
Dave Hounddriver Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Yeah, I already linked to the Philippine Constitution in my last post and nobody read it so here it is in big letters Section 7. For purposes of communication and instruction, the official languages of the Philippines are Filipino and, until otherwise provided by law, English.

To my old eyes it just looked like you were underlining that English is an official language. 1
Forum Support Old55 Posted December 2, 2020 Author Forum Support Posted December 2, 2020 Snowy, you're saying it's Filipino English not Canadian, American or English English.
