How is the milk and meat from yours? Is it as good as that from a regular, full-sized tree? I think the true dwarf coconuts have nuts that grow about waist high. Our trees are maybe semi-dwarf, we can cut down the nuts using a five or six foot ladder. Anyway our nuts are perfect, every bit as good as those from the full size tree we had cut down. I was always worried about having a worker fall from the big tree, maybe 30 plus feet, when I needed the nuts cut down and the fronds cut back during typhoon season. Watch for rats, man do they love coconuts! They will eat a hole in the side of the nut, then crawl inside to eat the meat. Less of a problem now that we have three cats. And the cats are all neutered/spayed so they stay close to home. 2

I noticed in most island nations that the locals wrapped some thin steel or aluminum strips around the trunks of the coconut trees in their copra groves to keep the rats from feeding on them. I would be okay with doing that, if necessary.

Forum Support Popular Post Tommy T. Posted February 10, 2021 Forum Support Popular Post Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) Good news! We have new starts now for neem trees, cacao plants and dwarf coconut. Tomorrow we will have several small truck loads of "earth fill" delivered along with some potting soil and a number of decorative plants too. I will post some photos soon. The back, front and side yards are starting to look so much better than during construction. I have planted corn and giant sunflowers outside the compound along the right-of-way. It will likely be a long time before there is any development so, meantime, we are growing things and improving the appearance of the local area. We already have "volunteer" squash developing along with tomatoes. Then we have seeds for many veggies that we will soon plant. We already paid for some hired help and also did our own work to finally clean up the right-of-way to one side of our home. So we have landscaped that a bit and are planting things alongside our fence. L assures me that nobody will steal anything there. I believe her since it is a quiet neighbourhood (mostly) and everyone know everyone else... Anyway... I will not miss a bit of corn or sunflower if someone is so bold as to steal some... We are excited to finally grow our own veggies to eat and maybe share. This home is finally starting to feel really like a home. I am spending much time tending to the new plants - our babies! Sorry - just couldn't resist that open goal tap in.
