Is it just business and pretty much Cavet empor or is it deceitful and on the edges of immoral and even illegal? I think it's immoral and should be illegal, I know there's gold diggers everywhere but this is pretty rampant from what I can tell, I know this niece in particular is from a broken family and poor but we have supported her and most of the others, anyone who couldn't afford to go to school or eat we sent the money so they could, we paid for her college and she dropped out the first year and became pregnant, I hate the fact that even thought my wife condemns their behavior she enables it. Thanks for the answer, Heeb. I was kinda hoping you'd answer as you did.

Many years ago before I got stationed here I tried the penpal thing, can't remember the name of the service, I had already been to the Philippines on deployment in 1980 and felt a deep attraction to Filipinas. I think it was the third letter that I got from her that she asked me for money to buy a VCR, and they were expensive back then, this was the end my penpal experience.

I also had a coworker a few years back that had a Russian penpal, I became suspicious when he told me she needed money for a visa to visit him, I told him if she can't afford it then there's no way the U.S. would grant a Russian a visa to come, he didn't like what i said. One day out of curiosity I'm in the office and I do a google search and find a .org sight that exposes scammer, had pictures of them, i scroll down and find her picture like 5 times, had a good laugh on the control floor over it.

hk blues Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Related to some extent - the TV show "90 Day Fiancee" is great viewing if you're into car crash TV. I find the hypocrisy the most appealing thing. A spin off is the Family Chantel - Chantel married Pedro from the Dominican Republic and brought him to the USA - her brother married a Filipina and her Sister-in-Law is dating a guy in the USA. Chantel constantly says that the others are only with their partners to get a Green Card. Another one is a guy from the USA who is, and it has to be said he is no dashing chap to say the least, dating a Filipina (there is a trend on this show) and he is now saying he is beginning to wonder if she's only with him because of his perceived wealth. It's good viewing if you're into low-brow entertainment like me! 1

I know this is off topic but it's kind of funny, I remember my first VHS I bought here in 83 in P.I. i bought the cheapest one and it was still like $300 dollars I think, it didn't even have a proper remote, it was tethered buy a 10ft wire to the unit. They had video shops that rented out pirated VHS tapes in town so my GF rented flash dance and invited the neighborhood kids to watch, about half way through the movie it cuts over to a porn video of some guy with a huge boner getting a knobber, I tried to shut it off really quick but only pulled the remote cable out of the socket, took me an eternity and the look on those kids faces man, i don't think they understood it thank god. So I take it back to the shop and tell the girls behind the counter that i think some sailors had played a prank and dubbed in the porno, so she sticks it in the machine and plays it, first time I saw pinays faces turn red, this was before the Philippines was known as the porn watching capital of the world. More Flesh Dance than Flash Dance then, Heeb?
Snowy79 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 3 hours ago, Heeb said: I have several nieces that do the online foreigner boyfriend thing, it's can be very profitable. One of them had an Italian guy sending her money, the truth is she totally misrepresented herself, she has two kids and a Filipino boyfriend whom she lives with in my wife's Laguna house. Last year she talked him into sending 200k to start a cantina, she actually did open a cantina but put no effort into making it work, it lasted two weeks, they just got drunk every night and slept all day. The man flew out to P.I. in December 2019 to meat her but of course she didn't show, on to the next sucker. My wife's house in Laguna is basically a crash pad for this behavior, it comes to life late at night as this is the best time to chat with the foreigners and my nieces use the free wifi that we pay for. There was an investigative journalist show on Filipino TV about a year ago highlighting how scamming is a growing industry now. There's even crime gangs setting up call centres with girls on shifts. At times they were pairing the girls up to make it authentic that the girl was open about the relationship and had told her friend all about him. They were making a fortune. One scam was getting the girls to convince a foreigner to join a paying dating site as they could send more intimate photos. Everyone she hooked she got a cut. Obviously being the Philippines all this TV show has shown is how easy it is to make money off a fool. I'd think the amount of scammers would have multiplied massively after the show was aired. The smart ones were asking for small sums like 100 peso load so they could chat more, when in reality they were using free wifi and getting ten to 20 guys sending 100 peso every day. They then sell the load on. Truth be told you can't blame them as there's no welfare here and for some it's that or selling their body, at times with family pressure. I lived around a prominant area where there were plenty of hunter girls scamming tourist. I'd see sweet and innocent girls turn up from the province who were literaly shaking as they walked into the bar and spoke only basic English, two months later they'd drink the guys under the tables and have two or three tourists per day. It opened my eyes and I'll admit changed my attitude to relationships. I never once slept with a bar girl or hunter but I knew many as aquaintences and they were very open about what they did. The sad thing is even armed with advice I still have had a few of my mates scammed, most for only a few thousand peso but a couple for a whole load more.
