I wonder why an explosion was heard if an electric fault is the blame.

A BRITISH national died after a fire hit a house in Pacific Grand Villas in Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City on Sunday evening, March 28, 2021.

SFO1 James Masa, an investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Fire Department, said the deceased is identified as Ian Mackenzie, 69, married.

At the time when the fire hit the house, Mackenzie was alone. His wife was out.

A neighbor heard an explosion. Not soon after, flames threatened to engulf the house.

Fire investigators believed that despite the fire, Mackenzie tried to escape, but his poor health slowed him down.

Security guards and emergency responders were able to get him out and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him, but he could not be revived. He was no longer breathing and he no longer had a pulse.

Masan said that their initial investigation found the fire incident to be electrical-related.

On 2 separate occassions I have been near enough to a transformer to hear an explosion and see it burst into flames.  Thus I can testify that sometimes electrical items explode when they catch fire.  Not sure what would do that inside the house though.

"Fire investigators believed that despite the fire, Mackenzie tried to escape, but his poor health slowed him down."
