Forum Support Popular Post scott h Posted July 9, 2021 Forum Support Popular Post Posted July 9, 2021 I have read enough Scifi, Tom clancy and spy novels, seen all all the James Bond, Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne movies to be familiar with the idea of the Mad scientists trying to take over the world. So now that they are in the drivers seat, just when will they relinquish control back to the people? WHO warns vs lifting COVID-19 curbs too soon WHO warns vs lifting COVID-19 curbs too soon | Philstar.com Asked about England’s plans to ditch most of its coronavirus restrictions from July 19, WHO emergencies director Michael Ryan said: “I would urge extreme caution in the complete lifting of public health and social measures at this time, because there are consequences for that.” Personally I am in favor of the direction the British PM is going British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday revealed plans to lift most of England’s legal coronavirus restrictions, including face masks and social distancing, urging personal responsibility rather than government edict. But that just me lol

It cannot go on forever, you can only do so much or you risk a complete economic collapse.
hk blues Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 I'm supportive of Boris on this, it seems we will never be free of Covid and its variants so we are faced with the choice of never-ending restrictions or accepting a degree of risk and getting back to whatever normality is possible without throwing caution to the wind.

A lot of vaccines are comming late this month and all next month so that might change things. To me once they see that a high number are vaccinated then things will get better Just yesterday, a new order allowed 5 years to 10 allowed out in public and it said Manila but while I was out a new order came to where I was in Cebu which said the same thing as they allow me to read because I'm special Anyway think back to the start, no hospital beds,no oxygen ,, deaths, deaths and more but slowly getting a grip but more so a handle on what's needed. Indonesia is doomed but any opening up to me has to be slow because a sudden spike will cripple the system. Yes I read all the comments on the BI Facebook page from those wanting to get in but delusional is what I think, nothing is easy so take it as it comes.
Dave Hounddriver Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Japan thought they could open up. After all, the Olympics is going on. Now they have declared a 4th "state of emergency" and they are not allowing people in the stands to watch the Olympic Games. So I hold out little hope of Philippines opening successfully. (By that I mean, even if they do open up they will shut down again as soon as cases start rising - which they will with open tourism). Quote Japan declares 4th state of emergency for Tokyo The Japanese government has decided to place Tokyo under a coronavirus state of emergency, its fourth so far. Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide announced it will be in effect from Monday July 12 to August 22. That will include the duration of the Tokyo Olympics. Suga told a news conference that the occupancy rate of hospital beds and the number of patients in serious condition remain low due to the vaccine rollout. But he said infection cases in Tokyo are rising with the spread of the Delta variant first detected in India. "We must avoid another outbreak starting in Tokyo. With that in mind, we decided to take preemptive measures, and declare a state of emergency for Tokyo once again," Suga said. With two weeks until the Tokyo Games begin, Suga pledged safety above all. "Holding a safe and secure Games amid the coronavirus pandemic is a good opportunity to show our global unity to overcome the current difficulties together," he said. Infection cases in the capital have been going up. Health authorities reported 896 new infections on Thursday, marking the 19th straight day cases have gone up compared to the week before.
Snowy79 Posted July 10, 2021 Posted July 10, 2021 I'm not holding my breath. I was in the head of one of the LGU's house two days ago to give a donation and he informed me they are going into full lockdown next week. A complete reset to March last year as covid cases are rising and now there's the Delta variant floating around which is allegedly pretty contagious and resistant to some of the vaccines. 1

Japan tends to be very conservative, and their "state of emergency" probably equates to GECQ here in PH. I think they are biting the bullet harder because of the Olympics. They will probably lose a ton of money hosting the Olympics without many visitors and spectators, but the last thing they want is for their Olympics to goes down as the starting point for another outbreak that spreads back to other countries when the guests leave. Their recent numbers are not all that bad. Maybe the recent small uptick in cases is for Tokyo.

I spoke to a Canadian friend who came from Vancouver back to Davao a few weeks ago. He is a 13a Visa holder, so he could be back alone and with no prior Visa arrangements. The only minus was that he had to do 10 days of quarantine in an accredited hotel (at his expenses) in Manila, plus 4 days here in Davao. The fact that he was 2-shot-vaccinated did not seem to matter. Since his arrival is recent - he only completed the process a couple of weeks ago - I assume this is the due process for foreigners entering the Philippines? Tough luck for those without a 13a... I just answer and say to complain to the IATF as its not the BI decision.
