What is the rate of catching covid?  Fatality rate at near 10% is very high.

Case Fatality Rate is a not a good measure how deadly a disease is in places where testing rates are low and hospitals are expensive and hard to access.

Because people mostly don't go for medical help until they need a Doctor so the 10% more reflects the fatality rate of symptomatic cases needing medical help than that of the total infected population.

I guess it depends on how you define urgency.  In Moalboal where I live the fatality rate for covid is currently at 9.7 percent, with two more deaths yesterday.   I realize that the lack of medical infrastructure in the area is a major contributing factor, but the numbers are what they are.  Adding to my concern is the fact that the majority of people vaccinated here received the sino vaccines which appear to have the least efficacy against covid.  As this is where almost all of my Philippine family live I definitely feel a sense of urgency.

How do you know it's from covid? The CDC admits that the PCR test can't tell covid from any other kind of flu and even the common cold is a corona virus.

[Edit] In response to mike J's article 6 hours previous, I should have excerpted it, but I just wiped it to save save space.

Here is an article that speaks about mixing and the trials that are taking place.  I think it gives a balanced report, I would call it cautiously optimistic based on initial trial results.

Word salad article. Nothing new there. It's just filler. Reporters and editors have pages to fill and actually, it's an easy topic because people will latch onto things thinking it new/news.

PCR tests can most definitely select between any of the common cold viruses and SARS Cov-19 2 (Covid).

There are some issues with false negative results but that is NOT the same thing as what you've claimed (without any supporting evidence).

Funny you say select and not Detect. Reading is fundamental also. I said the common cold is a corona virus. I did not say more than that.

That's just the ncov test. There are other more accurate Rt-Pcr tests out there that detect types of Influenza and Sars Cov2.  They are just allowing the older tests to be used up as those tend to be used alongside serology tests.
