Popular Post BrettGC Posted February 23, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2022 (edited) No surprise but PAL have cancelled my onwards ticket to Hong Kong. I was informed my email last night and they gave me the options of flight credit, rebook or full refund and they actually gave the link to the request hub to process the request. Filling it out was relatively straight forward and only took a minute or two. I opted for a refund so we'll see how long it takes them to process it. No time-frame given during the process. Back in January my flight was delayed for a day on the Sydney -> Manila leg. I spoke to them when I initially checked in about covering the costs of my extra night's stay in Sydney but they used COVID as an excuse and "sorry, we can't do that". Being in quarantine in Manila with not much to do, I decided to follow this up and called PAL. They offered to cover the costs of the extra night plus meals if I provided receipts, which I did and duly received a request number. This was on Jan 18, an no surprise, still no payment. I've followed up on their "request hub" on numerous occasions and my request is still active so I'll play the waiting game. The purpose of this little anecdote? To show my refund refund request may take some time.... For those that don't know, my trip to Hong Kong was a throw away anyway so it's a bit of a bonus receiving a refund. Popular Post Freebie Posted February 24, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 24, 2022 Nothing less than expected with PAL. I booked a Manila Cape town flight on Emirates for February. Emirates changed the flights requiring me to have a 36 hour transit in Dubai ( cant go out the airport as needed then to do PCR test in airport if flight coming from Philippines) . I cancelled the flight, one day later received email stating I would be refunded within 7 days. 5 days later the credit card on which I had paid was fully refunded. Some airlines on the ball... some wondering what a ball is. 6

Back in October 2019 we travelled from the UK to MNL via DXB with a return to the UK in April 2020. Of course in the intervening period COVID happened and we were unable to travel back to the UK. We were immediately offered a refund of the return section within 7 days (this on a non-refundable ticket) OR they would extend the validity for a further 2 years, to June 2022, which we opted for. Cannot fault their customer service, in my experience.

And who knows after that. So…the Philippines is open. Sort of.

Unless some major factor like a new strain killing everyone to me it looks like this country and others are at the live with it stage so I can only see things getting better.

She said people are still dying of Covid but shrugs as if they have given up trying to save them. My 86 year old mother had all the symptoms of Covid a couple of weeks ago so I took her to the hospital. They said to me "I don't know why you are bringing her here, there is nothing we can do for her". So . . basically everyone has given up and decided its like a flu. My mother seems to be recovered now and 2 tests have been negative for Covid. But 2 doctors said she probably had it and the test was wrong. Oops. This is off topic but I will leave it here as it feels good to spit it out. Be safe everyone.

The delay was about giving everyone a chance to be fully vaccinated (in most places anyway). Now that people have well and truly had that chance (at least in 1st world and most 2nd world countries) then there isn't much more to be done. And hospitals really can't do a lot unless someone's oxygen is well down on where it should be... that's just the way it is. The few drugs available are mostly aimed at seriously ill people or people who are yet to become symptomatic (and most people don't present without symptoms). Monoclonal antibody therapy is in very short supply and tends to be reserved for people with compromised immune systems as a result of the lack of supply. I'm sorry about your mother but realistically unless she needs supplemental oxygen there really wasn't anything a hospital could have done for her. Not for me…cathay just cancelled my flight. And it’s so close all the other options are crazy expensive. Guess I’ll be delaying a month or two.
