Yes, I was aware of such things but never used them pre-covid for a few reasons, unsure of the legitimacy of the agencies, the cost of the rented ticket was more than the throwaway ( back in 2019) and also I hadn't any familiarity or experience to use rented tickets. 

Post covid, rented tickets may be a viable option, at least financially, as flights are significantly higher currently.

I looked into that a few weeks ago and will be using on my next visa run soon. The sites I looked at had a 72 hour ticket and cheap. You can actually login to your flight details according to the sites.

They actually buy real tickets so don't see any issue.

Should be no issue.  I have had a "bright spark" at the BI on entry who actually plugged in my ticket to see if I was on the passenger manifest.  Those overly ambitious types are few and far between but so long as the ticket is real then I don't see any issue either.  I wonder how they do it.

From the sites I read they teamed up with travel agents so they actually buy the ticket and the agents can refund when cancelled from my understanding. As I said at least one site says you can log into your actual booking with the airline but I will try it when I go out next.

Our reservation can be used for visa application or onward travel, however be aware that we don’t provide e-ticket number.

There’s a mistake in my flight reservation?

Have you used the "rentonwardticket" website yet? Im leaving in 2 days and im sure Eva Air will ask for my onward ticket when im checking in for my flight because its for 45 days in Philippines. I have to choose a throwaway ticket website.
