Popular Post BrettGC Posted August 31, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) 7 years ago with neither of us present we had a heap of work done that was basically shoddy to say the least. Last year we redid downstairs internal with AM (Angry Midget - wife) present and it looks great but no before and after shots unfortunately. Now we're both present and the externals are just about done. In the first shot you can see that the upstairs was basically open and the door you can see on the left of the picture is our bedroom. It's east facing which is nice to walk out and see the ocean over the neighbour's houses but as you can imagine it heats up pretty quickly in the morning. The external walls are basically completed barring a little bit of painting to do. The gaps you can see are going to be filled with a window in the obvious spot with the arches being covered with tinted reflective glass - we didn't want to lose all the light. We're about to move on to the internals upstairs which includes turning what was previously the balcony into my man-cave, Finishing the upstairs bathroom/toilet, water tank and pump, insulating the roof (don't ask why it wasn't done initially, I still see red over that one), extending our bedroom, wall and floor coverings and redoing the electrics; it's basically a one bedroom apartment upstairs when we're done and our get away area. New roof after that. Just on the roof, the idiot supplier from 7 years ago when we first replaced it stamped his company logo through the galvanising and powdercoat so no surprise, it needs replacing again... You may notice that it's grey, more specifically naval ship grey... I gave AM carte blanche with regards to colours/decorating with the only thing not allowed being are floral wallpaper and "NHS green" paint anywhere and I laughed my arse off when I saw the grey; yes she is taking the piss, but it looks great! After 20 years in the navy either painting ships or supervising the painting (in Commonwealth navies everyone without a commission i.e. enlisted, in the crew takes part in ship maintenance) I thought those days were over.. Apparently not. Anyway, I've been helping with the painting as well. We got lucky with the builder this time around, he's both a carpenter and cabinet maker (yes, there is a big difference) and very good at both. I take great pleasure in raising my coffee mug to the previous builder as he walks past every morning and sees the work going on. stevewool Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I like the grey colour we had it painted around the windows and doors plus I got carried away because the rest of the family thought it looked stupid .
Jake Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 I like the grey trimming. Reminds me of hazy grey and underway. 2
Dave Hounddriver Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Looks like you've got 50 shades of grey there. Never took you for "that" sort.
Popular Post BrettGC Posted September 4, 2022 Author Popular Post Posted September 4, 2022 Other side of the house and the gate we installed a few months ago. You can see the damage in the eaves from the typhoon in December, there's similar on the other side but that's it. Pretty good I reckon considering the typhoon passed right over the top and a couple of houses were damaged beyond repair. The eaves are only 3-ply, when we redo the roof they'll be Hardiflex or something similar. To the right on the ground floor is all kitchen, it's massive, basically goes back to the property boundary. If we feel the need in the future we'll extend over the top of that.
