I never keep more than about 3000 peso in Gcash or Grab, too many stories going around about people losing their balances.

Usually through their own stupidity rather than any fault with the systems. When I or her buy anything online we use the COD method, that way we cant lose. Today for example I got 5 x 1 gallon bottles of stuff like washing liquid and dishwashing liquid.  Delivered to my door and paid when it arrived.

COD is more effective in the NCR than Mindanao as many sellers won't send COD to here but I agree it's safer (some won't send at all or have ridiculous freight extra charges).

I finally had L register my two SIMs. It was a bit of a hassle. They were "Smart" SIMs and their system required photos of IDs, full facial and facial holding IDS. Their software had difficulties with the photos, so they required multiple photos until they were happy. It took close to half an hour to register the two SIMs. And, meanwhile, we continue to receive spam messages via cell phone on a daily basis.... So, whatever this registration was supposed to fix - re: spam messages via cell phone - does not seem to be working.... How many times do I have to reject offers for casino and other bullshit offers?

It isn't working yet Tommy because it isn't implemented yet - we are only in the registration phase.  After April 26th all unregistered SIMs will be deactivated (I typed that without a smile, honestly) and all such junk messages will stop (I didn't type that without a smile) so let's see after April 26th what changes.

I just registered my Globe prepaid online as a 'foreigner/tourist'. They asked me for a photo of my accommodations booking, passport, selfie, and departure flight. I submitted them and registration is completed.

I'm reading online that the registration is valid for 30 days. Will the SIM be deactivated following that? If so how do I extend the validity? Has any one registered as a tourist more than 30 days ago and can comment on how it works?

Thanks

According to what I've read online you can extend the validity by providing your visa/visa extension.  This can be done any number of times within the validity of your visa.  If you do not extend it will automatically be deactivated.

Yes that's what it says online. However I don't see an online interface to provide them with these visa extensions.

I'll try asking at a Globe store, although I'm not sure they'll actually know what's going on. That's why I prefer to hear the experience of someone who's been through it already.

I asked a couple of basic questions at Globe previously and, as you suggest, they had little idea of anything beyond the basic registration process.

The Globe website states registration will last 30 days and then deactivated with no mention of extension - I suspect this is not correct as Smart allow extension.

I doubt there will be much experience out there as the deactivation won't, I suspect, start until 30 days after April 26.

Word on the street is this registration thing is a big success...for fixers, charging 100p to upload their docs for your number.

Just visited a Globe store, they say that for now there's no advisory about expiration, and that I should follow the news following April 26 for updated guidelines. Good enough😊

Regarding Smart, I don't see any interface to submit an extension request there either. You need to email them or visit the store. In which case I'm assuming they'll give you the same reply.
