I’m a tourist currently on 30 day extension.

All tourist who have a Filipino/a partner should just get them to register to save any issues.

And we will be in the same situation in 90 day's time, with maybe just another 10% more SIM's registered.

The whole initiative was well-intentioned but too many loopholes to make it effective in stopping criminals.

It's playing right into that Filipino attitude of "Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow".  I think the only reason they extended it was that the telco's got on the government's back as they would have lost too much revenue if so many SIMs were suddenly deactivated.

I said as much good few posts back. I am not sure what will the change in the next 90 days - people have had almost 4 months to register, a process which takes 5 minutes, so how will another 90 days help?

It will help me!  My data SIM with GOMO (which I'd 'registered online' ages ago) told us they'd contact us if they needed more information for the completion of the registrations, I never heard anything... for weeks and weeks.

Then a couple of days before the expiry date they stop the app working (which is used for recharges) and then say they need more information (which in my case would be my passport details).

I'm not going to bother registering it (I can't get SWMBO to register this as people have suggested because it's already in my name).

But now I've got 90 days to use up the data and load not 2 days :mocking:

Sort of related to this topic.... Something I learned when I first sailed out of USA and on to Mexico. Learned more as I continued sailing to remote islands:

Manana: Spanish translation is "tomorrow." In Mexico, means, "not today."

Island Time: means the same as "manana", but without the urgency.

Sure, but the purpose of the extension is not to give folks an extra 90 days to use up their load before it's forfeited, isn't it to give people more time to register?

I get your point though.

I agree it's not the point of the extension but my guess is that stopping people from adding load, causing them to end up with 0 load will cause less complaints than wasting load.  Also if the company apps get 'updated' and stop adding load without registration when updated then that would have the effect of 'soft cancelling' some of the unregistered SIM cards.
