Did you register in your own name, and if so was the procedure for you the same as your wife I.e. no extra steps for foreigners?

There's a 6 month window so I'll wait a while.  Same as never using the newest OS on my computers as they always have bugs.  My expat friend registered and then realised the SIM card he has had for years spending half his time here with wife and daughter and then overseas working now has a 30 day countdown.

He kicked himself for not putting it in the wife's name.

It sounds like the registration process asks people to identify if Tourist or Permanent resident. Or maybe the ID provided confirmed him as Tourist?

Thanks - so, as suspected, any long-term tourist would be better to get a local to register and avoid the 30-day ticking bomb.

I’ve read the posts and so far no one has mentioned illegal immigrants getting hooked up to the service. I like the idea of a photo to go with your registration, that would stop the likes of that sales girl and tourists would be that, not criminals hiding.

I may have to find a photo on the internet whose looks are better than mine. :whistling:

I submitted my stuff and the wife's last night.  Pretty straightforward although I did manage to get my address wrong despite double-checking - and there's no way to edit once the documents are submitted!  Also, the site didn't say that along with the passport biodata page the relevant visa should be included but I later noticed this in the frequently asked questions section - the site only has space for the one pic to be uploaded so it's kinda misleading.  Anyway, I also had to submit my ACR which shows I'm a Permanent Resident so I doubt it's an issue.  I notice SMART only require biodata page (no visa) so I suspect Globe have got it wrong as the ACR confirms visa status anyway.

The one thing which strikes me though is once you submit the docs you are immediately advised your registration was successful. So, they have no idea what docs you have submitted yet confirm registration on the assumption they are valid.  I can only assume that they are more interested in tracking those who are buying "burner sims" as they have to physically show the documents when buying the sims as of Dec 27 rather than registering via the websites.

Anyhow, all in all it went smoothly enough.

Used to be sim card machine inside the airport. Did any recently arrived observe if these machines was still there?

The sales booth outside airport still there?

As other said, much easier to get a local to buy a sim for us.
