Neither Beijing or the USA will ever be honest about the balloon. It's like asking the Secretary of Agriculture in the Philippines 'where are the onions?'

That begs the question of why the Canadians did not shoot it down.

It further begs the question of why the US even allowed it to enter. They knew about it before it reached the coast of Alaska. They could have popped it then or over a remote area of Alaska / Canada.

[Maybe it wasn't but] it may have gathered intelligence about military doings on the surface below, but that was a mere bonus.

If I’m right, Beijing’s chief reason for floating a balloon over North America was to see whether it would elicit a response from the U.S. government and military, as well as from the American people.

My money is on it being a diversionary bit of media to cover something else up.

A point I raised a few days ago in another thread on this topic.  Biden suggested they shot it down as soon as was reasonably practicable but I saw otherwise on a CNN news report.

Are you suggesting that you think China is still sleeping and we should not wake him? :hystery:  They have been "awake" for 20 years now according to this article https://www.insurancejournal.com/magazines/mag-features/2004/07/19/44587.htm

On the contrary, we should have never woke it up 20 (or more) years ago.
