Lee Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Teves didn't return to the Philippines yesterday. The stories that suggested that he would return have now been described as FAKE news. Teves hired 'hitman' arrested Manila Times By Franco Jose C. Baroña May 17, 2023 Quote A former policeman who was allegedly hired as a hitman by suspended Negros Oriental Third District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. was arrested inside Camp Crame in Quezon City, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported on Wednesday. Police Staff Sgt. Noel Santa Ana Alabata Jr. was arrested by virtue of arrest warrants issued by two Dumaguete City courts for cases of attempted murder and attempted homicide. Police BGen. Romeo Caramat Jr., CIDG director, said Alabata was formerly assigned to the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group Region 6 (PDEG-R6). He was allegedly hired by Teves to kill a certain "Ong," presumably a business rival of the embattled lawmaker. "Our verification is ongoing on the accused who was tagged as the gunman of Teves to know if he is involved in other cases. We will be fair on all the information that we would obtain to ensure that justice will prevail," Caramat said. Alabata was arrested on Tuesday, May 16, in front of the PDEG Building at Camp Crame in Quezon City. He was later taken to the CIDG office for documentation and custody while awaiting a Commitment Order from the issuing courts. https://www.manilatimes.net/2023/05/17/news/teves-hired-hitman-arrested/1891928

I doubt he will ever return on a volunteer basis unless he is found innocent in absentia.

Lee Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Update on Teves House certifies Arnie Teves' seat vacant, calls for special elections Quote The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a resolution calling on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to hold special elections to fill the seat left by the expelled Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. Introduced by Speaker Martin Romualdez and Representatives Mannix Dalipe and Marcelino Libanan, House members adopted House Resolution No. 1212, certifying the existence of a vacancy in the lower chamber, particularly the representative for the third legislative district of the province of Negros Oriental, and urging the Comelec to fill the vacancy. Under Republic Act 6645, the Comelec is mandated to conduct a special election if a vacancy occurs in the Senate at least 18 months or in the House of Representatives at least one year before the next regular election for members of Congress. Republic Act 7166 provides that the poll body shall call and hold a special election to fill the vacancy not earlier than 60 days nor later than 90 days after the occurrence of the vacancy.
