Unless they modify the constitution to prohibit political dynasties there will be no real reform.

When riding in a taxi to the airport in Manila I commented to the driver that so many high rise buildings were under construction. The driver's comment to me was, " All Chinese owned" . Of course you have to consider the source but it seems the general population believes foreigners can already own property.

The right to purchase land should be based on reciprocal agreements between two countries.  If Filipinos are allowed to purchase land in the United States, then Americans can do the same in the Philippines.  I don't think they permit foreign land ownership in China.

41% of Filipinos favor reforms to Constitution.

Completely irrelevant. The .1% will decide this matter as they do in all things.

I cannot count the number of times foreign ownership of land has come up in some bill or another and it has always been brushed aside and forgotten.  I think they are smart enough to keep the status quo.  Canada allows it.  And now we are taxing the shit out of foreign owners as they buy property for investors so our own citizens don't have places to rent or farm due to being expensive.  One might think that is great.  Let foreigners buy and tax the heck out of them.  But the cost to the government of having homeless people rioting is much higher than what they may get out of it.  Or perhaps I am overexaggerating.  Come have a look at the homeless situation here and judge for yourself.

He probably meant they buy a lot of condos, if you ever look at houses for sale the first thing they ask is about your wife.

It is great, for the foreigners. Never for the locals. But

100%, not just fair but another way to restrict the right to own land.

Exactly the same in Australia, and the main theme of my post as well.
