Would you say that it could be a possibility of a drunk driver or perhaps some other reason? I'm only guessing that if it was just an accident without alcohol or medical issues then the second accident may have been from panic.
Popular Post intrepid Posted May 25, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 25, 2023 Things are not always what they appear. Many years ago I was investigating a similar accident like the above. While at the scene of the second accident hit and run just a few blocks away I received a report of a third where the driver was still there. ( major damage each accident but no injuries) When I arrived and contacted the driver I first suspect he was intoxicated with glassy eyes and very slurred speech. He was having much difficulty locating his drivers license which he passed over several times as I stood there. He seemed to be very confused but I didn't smell any alcohol. I quickly realized this was a medical emergency and called for an ambulance. Later at the hospital it was confirmed he was having a stroke. Although he was still charged and quickly recovered, the judge gave him a break seeing his medical records. I will be interested to see the full story when this is settled.

Back in the 90’s during my tenure in law enforcement as a traffic crash / traffic homicide investigator and doing DUI enforcement I ran into similar situations a quite a few times. It wasn’t all that uncommon to come across a seemingly impaired driver only discover they were suffering a medical emergency. The community where I lived in Florida has a large elderly population and it was often a case of insulin shock (aka diabetic shock). Insulin shock mimics alcohol intoxication, even to the point of their breath smelling as if they had consumed alcoholic beverages.

That's a good question, because a Filipino who kills in a hit and run is often given the option to work it out financially with the family of the deceased. 100K or 200K pesos and it is all forgiven, often.

Heeb Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 There’s a lot of old guys riding rickety bicycles on the national highway, they wobble and swerve around with no care. You have to slow down when approaching them. He should have stayed and most likely he would just have to pay medical bills and buy the guy a new bicycle. Now he’s toast.
