Popular Post JoeLansing Posted June 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) I almost don't believe this yet. I want to believe there's a language failure here somewhere. But. We have a 3 bedroom house that is pretty much done being built. She had 1HP units put in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. I asked her "Nothing for the living area?", she said no. So I gave her $1.400.00 to put a 2.5HP in the main living area which should have been plenty. Well, after installation she told me she bought a 5 TON AC unit. It was the same cost as the 2.5HP, and came with a 10 year warranty, and free cleaning every 6 months. I'm scared now. A 2.5HP is 24K BTU. A 5 TON is 60K BTU. 5 Ton = 6.5HP. She doesn't even know what brand it is, but says it is German. Not LG, Samsung, Daikin, Carrier. I don't know of any German aircon units. She doesn't even know if it's an inverter, so it might run the full 5 Ton just to cool down a few degrees. I keep telling her she could not have bought a good 5 ton for 51k php, but she swears she did. Oh well, I guess I'll be seeing it come late July. I feel like she got sold some giant thing that nobody else wanted, and probably for a good reason. I'm scared...lol Then on the bright side it should keep me cool the 2-3 weeks I'm down there to check it out. hk blues Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Wow. You can probably just open the doors to all rooms and turn off the other a/c units in these rooms! Joking apart - putting aside the issue with the unit itself, it will be pretty expensive to run such a beast. B.T.W. $1400 USD is a good bit more than 51k php so maybe it's not such a cheap unit.

The $1400 was for a 51,000 php Daiken aircon, and then I added $400-$500 for installation. She supposedly got the same deal for a 5 ton. Scares me! Unless she's getting a family member to do it then you'll probably need to send another $500! 5 1

I know. My house is here though https://www.google.com/maps/@9.9390342,124.1556619,276m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu It's WAY out in the sticks, so you pay a bit for that. Popular Post Possum Posted June 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) 5 ton is a way too big but the sellers and installers in the Philippines have little idea how to size an AC. I have a 1 ton [12000 btu] that cools my living kitchen area, but the house is well insulated. A 18000 btu unit would be sufficient in a less insulated house. The problem with having a unit too large is the room will cool too quickly. When a room cools too quickly there is not enough time to remove the moisture in the air so you end up with a cool damp room. Of course the electrical cost is higher too. Sounds like she got scammed but need more information before making that judgement. In my earlier life I was a HVAC design engineer, mostly did commercial and industrial projects but the principles are the same. I can help with the sizing of a proper unit given the correct information. The incompetent AC sellers and installers here is a pet peeve of mine.
JoeLansing Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) It's already installed. Ha! She just got me a photo of it. Doesn't look like a 5 ton to me. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZRtbnNwo_YxuQ0aFk8NRQNh49HTwpzVN/view?usp=drive_link Here's a pic of the house for more perspective. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aBOQtOlEsyCXYLtOP-9x1HUfwXmWr_2f/view?usp=drive_link The house is back behind here. JoeLansing Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) Until I move there gonna toss this on Airbnb as a luxury resort hideaway for $150 per night. :) The perfect place to enjoy the Philippines in it's untarnished natural beauty. Enjoy the scenic Chocolate Hills in your back yard. Very close to Sagbayan Peak, Dano Adventure Park, and Sea of Clouds. Don't miss out. This is a one of a kind accommodation!
