Forum Support Mike J Posted July 29, 2023 Forum Support Posted July 29, 2023 I expect this may become quite the controversial decision. https://www.manilatimes.net/2023/07/28/news/first-tourism-pride-summit-set-in-september/1902834 THE Department of Tourism (DoT) will be holding a first-ever Pride Summit as part of the government's initiatives focusing on "inclusive tourism development and establishing the Philippines as one of Asia's most LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning, and asexual plus) friendly destinations." Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco made the announcement on Thursday during the Philippine Financial and Inter-Industry (PFIP) Pride Summit 2023, where she also spoke about the enormous opportunities for the growth of LGBTQIA+ tourism in the Philippines. Frasco said the LGBTQIA+ community is one of the rapidly expanding sectors of society worldwide, with over 35 million travelers. The DoT has designated LGBTQIA+ tourism as a priority under the Office of Special Concerns of the Office of the Secretary, in addition to organizing the Tourism Pride Summit, set in September, with the PFIP. "We at the Department of Tourism take pride in having a multitude of numbers from your community across the tourism value chain in all of the regions of the Philippines," Secretary Frasco said. BLM Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 "Frasco said the LGBTQIA+ community is one of the rapidly expanding sectors of society worldwide, with over 35 million travelers." They may want to recheck those numbers. That may be what was projected as who might support the LGBTQIA+ community, not the actual numbers. The backlash from Budlight and others shows those numbers may have been off, that community may not be coddled now as much as hoped. The issue has become more divisive. I think they should stay neutral on this issue, especially on a topic that isn't directly connected to tourism. With the fiasco of the recent tourism ad, they shouldn't be gambling on something that already has shown negative consequences. Tourism should be inviting for everyone. Political issues will only deter those who disagree with that position. Keep the politics out and make this place inviting for all. 3

It's just another example of positive discrimination where there is a need to give certain 'disadvantaged' groups a leg up to level the playing field. At the most basic level it's wrong but so is discriminating against someone because of their race, color, gender, sexuality and so on. Positice action is distasteful, but necessary IMO. 2

A lot of people say they support something, but in practice, they don't. They'll say what sounds good to avoid disdain, but will not spend their tourist dollars to support the cause, whatever it is. That's why the tourism commission should focus on tourism and attractions the country has to offer.

Gator Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Maybe they can help out the now unemployed, poor and recently disadvantaged people who worked the bottling plants and breweries that made tranny fluid aka bud light. I’m sure the tourism board can a huge discount on bud light and give it to arriving LBQTGPASZROMW+++ passengers!

The priority is, or should be, the citizens, and the citizens are Christian. The US and Western Europe were once the same, until they were subverted by non-Christians, just like what is happening now in the Philippines now. Would be great if the Church steps up and crushes this type of globalist propaganda, but at least they haven't been weakened enough to allow gay marriage or abortion. Any expat who supports this virus should go back to their own country where it spread from. 2
JJReyes Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I am okay with tolerance which means no discrimination whatsoever, whether overt or subvert. Openly marketing to the group is something else because it becomes political and there can be a backlash among those who oppose like conservative Christians and Muslims. Let's wait to see what happens next. I am sure the all power Roman Catholic of the Philippine will express an opinion.
