The entire cost of treatment including the series of rabies shots was 27,323.61 PHP.

Gulp...my wife paid 1,200php for her rabies shots (4 in total) and I even baulked at that as it used to be free.

Still free (I think) at government hospitals.  But the supply is ridiculously low, far below what is actually required in areas overrun with stray dogs.

Kind of like snake anti-venom. The only antivenom in the Philippines is for Philippine cobra. The public hospitals are supposed to stock it but don't because it has a shelf life. No snake bite patient? They lose money.  One victim I know of was bitten, went to local public hospital but then had to be taken to Alabang near Manila 4 hours away for antivenom. Too late, that person died.  If you get by a pit viper you are on your own, the Philippines doesn't stock that antivenom.

Our neighborhood called the local animal control about all the dogs running around, fighting etc. Animal control said they were full. :571c66d400c8c_1(103):

That happened to a nice kid I knew. Was working summer vacation clearing brush for a mining company before starting on his masters in the fall. Got bit by a pit viper. Dead 4 days later before the antivenom arrived.

They don't stock it because of the shelf life, costs money. Yet Philhealth has a 90 billion dollar surplus that the government is going to take for government worker raises and other 'unprogrammed ' appropriations.

This was a government hospital - it was free when my son got it 3 or 4 years ago but they said that hasn't been the case for a few years now.  And, you're right about supplies being limited, my wife had to return a day later when stocks were replenished.

Does the tick treatment work? My dog is infested with the dang things.  I can pick off 50. And do it again the next day. I've tried all sorts of soaps, meds, ivermectin..etc. nothing has worked

Find a permethrin insecticide and use as directed on the dog and where it sleeps.
