Not always true, see the baby boomers; the economy boomed, and the birth rate boomed. What happened next was anything but natural, but suffice to say it didn't happen in the Philippines who remain a unified people, culture, and religion, with the same traditional family values; all a source of pride. Are you new here? I mean as in under 6 years or so. Not attacking, just asking. "A unified people"? Its quite funny because we appear to live in different countries. 3

Popular Post Jollygoodfellow Posted October 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2023 There are a few members from dead forums here and the attitude stays the same as to what was allowed or the norm back in the days but this forum has always run differently so be warned that it is easy for members to be removed no matter how many times they come back under new usernames. If you do not understand what I am saying then continue attacking each other to find out. Now let's get back to what I see in many comments here about lazy Filipinos. Many could never understand as all their life they had a good home, food, and mummy/daddy provided all but how about walking a mile in someone else's flip flops? Many say people are lazy but that might depend on what part of the country you live and judge. How many jobs are there to go around and more so in the province? Even in the city without education finding a job is hard. If one has had limited education it's even harder, no one will employ you but think about this, limited education and from a poor family so how do you advance? You have no money to get to the next province or town to work or attend an interview and you have no computer knowledge or internet, so you are stuck in a vicious cycle around you. I challenge those who think it's easy in this country to go forward to throw their luxuries away, put 20 pesos in their pocket, and survive for 2 weeks, can you do it? Probably not Anyone who has ever been out of work long-term will know it eats at you, and you lose your confidence and self-esteem so it might appear to those from Western countries that people are lazy but when you are stuck in a bad place it's not easy to move forward. Think about your upbringing because you were born in a better place, now try and reverse that and put yourself in someone else's flip-flops. Where I live I don't see any laziness. I see people with heavy cans of ice and some sort of drink on their shoulders just trying to make a few pesos from what they sell. I see thousands of call center workers making a living in stressful situations every day. I see waiters and all that serving people so how did you get your last McDonald's brought to you, Grab, Foodpanda maybe? So who is the lazy one? 4 5
Popular Post Clermont Posted October 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2023 JGF, it is good to see your on the ball, I was getting sick of the politics creeping into the post’s and the personal attacks on each other going unchecked. I thought Cappa had got under your guard. All I can say to those who flaunt the rules p===off and stop trying to buggar up a top forum that a lot of people have taken years to build. 7 1
Popular Post BrettGC Posted October 22, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) Great post JGF. Just to add to it: Many here seem to be under the mistaken impression that poverty is a choice and that they themselves are immune to gravity. Before the Global Financial Crisis there were many in the West that also considered themselves untouchable by economic disadvantage only to find themselves jobless, homeless and begging on street corners. I'm talking hard working people that were previously living the dream. The GFC only proved it can happen to anyone at anytime. I'm not a particularly religious guy but "But for the grace of God, go I" is a tenet I live by in a secular context. As for politics being pushed: I have very little interest in Australian politics other than how it affects my military pensions and day to day living here in PI; which is to say next to none, it's one of the reasons I moved here. Aside from the forum rules specifically stating not to do it, when another country's politics are mentioned to push an agenda, most of the time with much less subtlety than the poster believes, I have to ask myself why they think anyone cares? Particularly those of us not from that country. It's actually a large part of why I'm finding myself frequenting these forums less than in the past. Kingpin Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Agree with that entire post, just one thing to add: 3 hours ago, Jollygoodfellow said: Think about your upbringing because you were born in a better place, now try and reverse that and put yourself in someone else's flip-flops. "better" place. If it was really better there, none of us would be here.

Yep Cappa's back JGF, can't take a hint, doesn't understand people don't give a rats about his opinion and it's no good abbreviating words for him. He's come from another site that doesn't want him because of his behavior.

I see waiters and all that serving people so how did you get your last McDonald's brought to you, Grab, Foodpanda maybe? So who is the lazy one? I agree with much of what's been posted there...and will admit I'm as guilty as the next man of confusing laziness with sheer apathy and hopelessness that many of the poor here must feel. But, perhaps the tag of lazy can better be applied to those with a bit, or sometimes a lot, more money. I see (and hear) my neighbour honking his horn every night for his maid to open the gate. I also see bits n pieces of trash lying in my street after garbage collection and am the only one who will pick it up. I see folk insisting on parking right outside their gate even this turns the street into a ski slalom course. I look at my neighbour's newly painted house with one small patch the painter missed still the old, and very different, colour despite there being 5 adult males in the house. Maybe these are example of arrogance, selfishness or superiority rather than laziness but that's immaterial. I'm genuinely not trying to turn JGF's excellent post around, just saying that from my side the accusation of lazy people isn't really aimed at those folk who are scrambling around in the dust for a few pesos to feed their families...it's aimed at those just a couple of rungs above. Hell, my own son to my shame is as bad as any for not doing his bit. 5
