Saturday night and being out with friends etc. is almost a mandatory event with many Filipinos.  I wonder if it is even possible to enforce a 10 pm curfew.  :89:

So vote buying only happens 2 days before the election between 10pm and 4am. Since vote buying only happens then and not in the daytime I can see logic in curfew! 🤣

There are some serious political dynasties in that area, complete with private armies. The curfew is likely just a disclaimer in case something happens.

About 15 years ago we bought land and built a house for my wife's parents.  They were living in a "bad" area for crime, drugs, etc.  After being in the new a couple months Papa wanted to move back to the old for a couple weeks.  I said to my wife; "He must miss his friends?"   Wife replied; "The new house is so nice that no one is willing to buy his vote."  At the old place Papa and Mama were each given 500 peso for their vote.  I asked Papa if he actually voted for the person who paid the 500.  He didn't say a word, just gave me an amused smile. :hystery:

I am always amused to hear folk complaining about how corrupt government here is at all levels yet happily take part in the vote buying system every election.

"You get the government your deserve." springs to my mind.

Must be the standard rate, the wife's brother had to go back home to get his money.
