smallchungo Posted January 8 Posted January 8 How are the hospitals in these areas? I can travel for planned surgeries, specialists, or specific types of scans, but I would like a capable emergency room nearby for freak things like heart attack, stroke, car accidents, etc.

Bear in mind Davao has a population of 2.5m whilst Iloilo has 0.5m so there is almost certainly more and bigger hospitals in Davao City but then again more people using them! The problem is likely more getting to the facility in good time due to traffic etc etc. I'm in Iloilo b.t.w. and haven't had to access emergency treatment but day-to-day medical stuff has been fine thus far.

The problem in an emergency is getting to the hospital. After 11 years of living here I still dont know if there is an operable 911 system or paramedic system. We live not far from a public hospital and rarely does a day go by where a tricycle does not go racing by with its horn blaring continuously on the way to the emergency room.
Forum Support Tommy T. Posted January 10 Forum Support Posted January 10 I will echo the above remarks. I live just outside Davao City proper and found that the facilities at Davao Doctors hospital to be first rate. I have been told that the public hospital - I think it's called Southern Philippines Medical Center - has even better facilities due to its funding from Japan. Many of the same doctors work in these two - and likely other - hospitals. There are several others around the city, but I would avoid San Pedro Hospital - been there and it is old, somewhat dirty and very busy with locals because its prices are a bit lower...
