Live-in maid

I don't think it's worth the risks involved.

As someone said, status is probably a big reason for many people hiring a maid. Thank God that my wife don't care about status!

I'm with you on this. Unless physically disabled I think you're asking for more trouble than it's worth. 

I see a few expats with maids, some have kids and some don't. I'd be bored rigid if I never had something to do and I certainly wouldn't have respect for my partner if all she did was to become a lady who lunches. Plus the kids are effectively being brought up by the maid at times.

The theft was reported to the police, but for the authorities to actively pursue the maid, they would need money for expenses.

I will post my picture so you can see another. Right now we have two (but not live in), husband and wife with others on-call as needed.

We are very fortunate. Almost feudal. Our helpers all come from the same extended family. The grand-aunt of our current worked for my mother-in-law starting 35 years ago. Since then, one or another of them have worked for us, and my two brothers in law family.

In the last eleven years, I have not changed a light bulb, folded a shirt, emptied a litter box, washed a dish or cleaned a toilet. Ahhhhhhhh, life is good.

Thanks for the update. I had forgotten about having to pay police and prosecutors in the legal system. Financially, it's not worth going after them in many cases.

I think I've seen enough from this thread to pass on a maid. Just not worth the potential hazards. Plus most of the places in the Philippines are so small, not hard to clean. Not like we are living in a 4500 sq foot house out here.

Our old place was 2500 and that used a lot of electricity, we downsized to a town house and that's only 1000.

Our electric bill is half of what it was, and less cleaning.
