earthdome Posted June 8 Posted June 8 My wife told me today there is armed fighting between NPA and Ph army very close to my wifes family home in Northern Luzon. In fact the fighting is in an area I have been to by a natural mountain pool we have picnic'd at. This is the first NPA activity in that area in over 10 years. JJReyes Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Remnants of the NPA movement continue to survive through extortion and protection rackets. The Philippine government found ways to defeat their original ideology by changing the attitude and tactics of the army. Previously, government forces used Vietnam era intimidation on the area population. This never worked. The development of a more professional army helped reassure the local population that the military was present for their protection.
