Rooster Posted July 29 Posted July 29 July 27, 2024 MANILA, Philippines — A saltwater crocodile 2.5 meters long was caught off Diniwid Beach in Boracay late Thursday. According to reports, the crocodile was first spotted in the morning at Sinagpa Beach, prompting authorities to ban swimming in three of the island’s stations until the reptile was caught or rescued. The Malay town government said members of the Philippine Coast Guard – Boracay, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), lifeguards, volunteers and residents were able to find and rescue the crocodile at around 4 p.m. off Diniwid Beach. The crocodile, which weighed between 50 to 60 kilos, was brought to the CENRO in Barangay Napaan, Malay. The CENRO said the reptile measured 2.5 meters in length, with a body width of 25.5 centimeters. It was believed that the crocodile got lost and was swept to the island amid the onslaught of Typhoon Carina. https://www.philstar.com/nation/2024/07/27/2373241/saltwater-crocodile-caught-beach-boracay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMs_vPgTm5Y

Also interesting is there are no prisoners, just people deprived of liberty and cars when stolen are car-napped. Who invents these terms?
graham59 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 I believe most of the govt. 'official' language here is derived from Charles Dickens, with Marvel Comic Book overtones.
Snowy79 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 I'll be holding off swimming there for a week or two. It's right where I used to do my daily distance swimming.

My thoughts exactly. A year from now in the employee lounge; "Remember that time we rescued the alligator?" "Crap - you have told that story at least 20 times already". We had just moved into our house here on the ocean. I was in the yard and heard a commotion out in the water. About 40-45- yards off shore a swimmer was struggling to stay up, splashing the water, going under, etc. I was in a panic because I am a very poor swimmer and knew I could not save him. It was then I realized he was an excellent swimmer and slapping the water with his arms, going under to grab rocks and throw them etc. He was scaring fish into his net.
