Not what my wife tells me And How to ask help from Philippine senators? All requests for social assistance can also be submitted through a drop box located at the Senate entrance gate. Forum Support Mike J Posted August 2 Author Forum Support Posted August 2 I think this is one of those situations that my Dad would call "stuck between a rock and rough spot". The jeepneys do indeed cause a great deal of pollution, have safety issues, and often cause traffic problems, and operate on a shoestring budget. But they also provide affordable transportation to millions of Filipino citizens who do not access to and/or cannot afford other means of transportation. The jeepney has been the primary public inner-city transportation system for the majority of the public for decades. The folks that made the decision to transition to a modern system failed to factor in the total cost of purchase and maintenance for a new fleet. The cost of ridership ultimately must be paid by ether the riders or subsidized by the government. And it appears there will be far few of the new vehicles that there are jeepneys? My opinions of course. I would love to see fleets of modern jeepneys that look like Philippine jeepneys but are safe, quiet, and do not pollute the air like a trash fire. Unfortunately that would probably be an even more expensive proposition that what is in process now.

I would love to see them with clean buring engines and proper mufflers. As they are now I don't like them. To fix up the engines and mufflers will cost a lot of pesos but IMHO less than one of the new buses being forced on them. A friend of mine when given the choice will not take a new bus opting instead for the Jeepney bcuz the Jeepney gets her home much faster. The new buses take a long time to stop, open doors, etc. Jeepneys hop on hop off is quick.

About 3 years ago when this whole thing started, a local group brought in some of the new "jeepneys". Side entrance, tall enough for folks to stand in the aisle, air conditioned, initially these type charged 2 pesos more than the traditional jeepneys. What is sad is that I saw one go buy yesterday. Paint faded and scratched, tires bald, windows open (I can only assume that the aircon is inop). 3

It doesn't matter what we are talking about, houses, cars, tools, busses - the same issue is constant I.e. the total lack of maintenance. And, when the initial product is on the cheaper side the need for maintenance increases.

I'm sure we'd all love to see well-maintained and well-driven jeepneys continuing to provide great service but it's not what's happening.

So Mr Juan, having a problem and wants Senatorial assistance gets on a plane to Manila to drop an envelope. Yeah.. right.... Was having dinner with a few filipinos last night and they and my gf/s.... hey do you know who your senator is... well they had heard of Tulfo and the wonderfully ineptly named Robinhood Padilla, and Hontiveros ( the courge of the POGO scum ) but other than that no one could name many senators. Cant name them cant complain to them dba ?
graham59 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Simply update the 'running gear' to modern emissions standards. There is no need to put thousands out of work/business, while giving work to foreign (enemy?) countries, and using up even MORE of the earth's resources. These vehicles are designed for locals to use and appreciate, in all kinds of challenging conditions, not spoilt poriners.
