Airports In Bangkok

I have not been to Bangkok in many years.  Might be going with the family in November.  Previously I only knew of the main International airport, BKK, but now I see that they have a secondary international airport, Don Mueang.  Air Asia uses it and Cebu Pacific also.

Anybody used it?  Pros and cons?  Appears that both airports are around the same distance from the city center.

We frequent Thailand. Why fly out of Manila when you are  only 1 hour from Clark, Cebu Pacific (Clark) has direct flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport. From the airport take the Tram into town. Research both airports on Youtube.  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Suvarnabhumi+Airport+to+bangkok

Don Mueang was actually the old international airport and unpopular because it took too long to get into the city. The newer airport (Suvanabhumi) took much less time.

Now they have subway and sky train the issue may be less - I've no idea if both are served by them, though.

Yes, I gathered that it was the old airport.  Using Google maps it seems like drive times are similar.

Unless things have changed the reality was it was a 2-hour drive from DM to the main hotel areas but only around 45 mins from the new one.

But, with new transport infrastructure it may be different now.

To be honest,  I enjoyed the trip and looked upon it as sightseeing so the extra time wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Yes, correct about Clark, but we are considering all options, mainly due to the crazy middle of the night schedule of Cebu Pacific.  The return flight to Clark arrives at 0300.

Don Muang old .. very old. Suvarnabhumi new. Lots walking to do   but it works.  Easy access to Pattaya and Hua Him with buses. Cant do that with Don Muang.

And super easy with Grab or regular taxis. Paid Bht 600 on grab the other day to airport.

If you flying on Cebu Pacific be aware that the line marked web chick in is super slow whereas the normal line is way faster. This is despite the children running Cebi Pacific saying " you must check in online" in emails

Oh and the bag drop line can suddently became the webcheck in line and visa versa at the whims of whoever is in charge of check in there. Seen it twice. How can it take 2 hours to check in when already checked in on web. .......

Regarding CP checkin,  I think we experienced the same on PAL at Clark in June.  Waste of time to check-in online.

Were you referring to CP checkin at Clark?

Actually was referring to check in at Suvarnabhumi.. however check-in at NAIA was a breeze at 4am. only took 2 hours ! Senior line was slower than regular line .
