Popular Post Lee Posted August 4 Popular Post Posted August 4 Congrats. This is only the second gold medal EVER won by the Philippines in the Olympics. Quote Carlos Yulo has finally capitalised on his otherworldly ability. The history-making Filipino gymnast wrote his name in the record books once again Saturday (3 August), claiming the gold medal in the men's floor exercise final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Yulo earned a 15.000 after he stuck his three-and-a-half twist dismount cold. Savoring the moment on the podium, he pumped both his fists before presenting the judges, later saluting the fans in the audience and putting his hands to his heart. "I'm so overwhelmed. I'm feeling grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always," he said afterward. "He gave me the strength to get through this kind of performance and perform this well." Tokyo 2020 champion Artem Dolgopyat of Israel took the silver (14.966), with Great Britain's Jake Jarman (14.933) claiming bronze. It's the first medal of any colour for the Philippines in gymnastics and just their second Olympic gold ever after Hidilyn Diaz won the Women's 55 kg event in weightlifting in Tokyo. The triumph comes as the 24-year-old has struggled in recent years, including at the last Games in Tokyo, with consistenty and delivering in the most important moments. For every breakthrough - including his first gold on the floor exercise at the 2019 Worlds - there have been heartbreaks, like last year's World Championships where he finished last in the all-around during qualifications, counting a 0.000 on the vault. https://olympics.com/en/news/carlos-yulo-delivers-clutch-routine-for-historic-floor-exercise-gold-medal *"*I'm grateful for the people who really supported me. I could not do it without them," said Yulo. 4

Lee Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Follow up. What's in store for Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo? Quote MANILA — Carlos Yulo made history for the Philippines at the Paris Olympics, after bagging the country's second gold medal at the Summer Games early Sunday morning, Manila time. The 24-year-old gymnast delivered on high expectations, when he won gold in the floor exercise in men's artistic gymnastics with a score of 15.000. Following the historic feat, the country's Golden Boy is set to receive rewards for raising the flag on the world stage. Under Republic Act No. 10699, or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, gold medalists should receive P10 million, while silver and bronze medal winners get P5 million and P2 million, respectively. Since Yulo won gold at the Olympics, he's expected to receive P10 million as well as a Gold Olympic Medal of Valor from the Philippine Sports Commission. Yulo will also receive a house and lot from the Philippine Olympic Committee, which earlier pledged to give the reward to Paris Olympics gold medalists. POC president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino, who is also Tagyatay City mayor, previously rewarded Tokyo Olympic medalists with property in the city. In 2021, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, the first Filipino Olympic gold medalist, received a house and lot. Olympic silver and bronze medalists boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam and Eumir Marcial were also given homes by Tolentino. The House of Representatives will also award Yulo P3 million, according to House Committee on Appropriations Chairperson Elizaldy Co of AKO BICOL party-list . "The reward reflects our support for his continued success and our commitment to fostering Filipino talent on the international stage," the statement read. The 24-year-old gymnast will also be awarded a P24-million condominium unit in Taguig City, with property development firm Megaworld Corp.'s pledge of a 'fully furnished 2-bedroom condominium unit in McKinley Hill.' Buffet restaurant chain Vikings Group also gave lifetime free buffet to the Olympic gold medalist for his feat. Meanwhile, engineering and construction firm NEXA Engineering is giving Yulo free lifetime engineering design. The country's Golden Boy may see more rewards in the coming days, similar to the outpouring of support from the government and private sector for the first-ever Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz. Yulo will vie for another gold medal at the vault final, set for Sunday evening. What's in store for Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo? OnMyWay Posted August 5 Posted August 5 I'm very impressed by this kid! Great example for Filipino kids. Hard work and determination pay off. A few of my daughter's gymnastics club teammates, and the coach, have met him and posted selfies with him after his first gold. They are all very excited!
