Same advice was given to army personnel in Vietnam.

I don't know what that stuff the corpsmen put on your toes to treat jungle rot was but it should cure anything. Hurt like hell but worked well. Toes would look like you had gangrene but in a week you could go back out and get the rot again. I wish I could find out what that stuff was, of course the EPA may have banned it by now.

When I was in the navy we were encouraged to pee on our feet before having a shower, sounds gross but I don’t think I had any feet issues.

My dog is not in the Navy but he is very good at peeing on his feet.  Maybe there is a method to his madness.

I have not had a toe infection or ingrown nail for over 24 years since me Asawa started monthly pedicures on my feet, sometimes a little painful but much better than the ingrown or infections.

When I was a runner my toes were constantly messed up.

And wearing work boots for longs hours a day & many years are detrimental also.

A couple of personal rules I follow. 1. I never stand up in bare feet in the dermatologist office, you never know what the last patient drug in.  2. When I travel I always spray the shower/tub floor with Lysol before using.

Never go bare foot in any lodging.

I was expecting the lifeguard to stand on the edge of the pool and pee.
