Guy F. Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Most of us know how almost any metal will rapidly corrode in salty air. For this reason I'd like to get vinyl roof gutters for my next house in the Philippines. I asked our architect and he said there are none available in the Philippines. I'm asking you, my fellow expats, for confirmation. How about aluminum roof gutters? GeoffH Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Many houses here don't have rain gutter because they can't handle the flow when it's wet season... no gutter = no corrosion issue. 2

Exactly. You seldom see them on houses. One near me has them, they’re very wide and have oversized downspouts. The landlord at my old apartment just let the rain water flow off the roof. He had put stone down where the water fell to help keep the dirt from splashing up and to prevent the water from creating a “ditch”.

And you need to keep them in some places or you will have a big mess. We are going to rebuild our covered patio in the back and I think we can do without gutters there, but in the front I think we need to keep them.
intrepid Posted August 4 Posted August 4 At Wilcon in Sta Rosa they sold the vinyl gutters and downspouts. Of course they will not rust but after a couple years they get brittle and easily crack and break. I have not seen aluminum gutters but stainless steel is common and costs more. Another option I saw in more expensive homes is a canal around the house with drain grids. Think of in ground gutters. Maybe ~12" wide and 10"-12" deep. Just a thought you may consider.

You’d have to add a drawbridge and knights to guard it, so it could get pricy. 🤣
Forum Support Mike J Posted August 4 Forum Support Posted August 4 I see they are available on Lazada but they appear to on the small side. Our gutters are powder coated galvanized steel. Quite large to handle the monsoon rains. We have one of the down spouts running into a 500 liter stainless tank. We use that to water plants. https://www.lazada.com.ph/products/atlanta-pvc-gutter-12-18-4ft-and-downspout-4ft-i3051271344-s15037535767.html?from_gmc=1&fl_tag=1&exlaz=d_1:mm_150050845_51350205_2010350205::12:21416304181!!!!!c!!15037535767!444011515&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzby1BhCQARIsAJ_0t5MXYLKXVysXxtCcNXeFjz2wH7vhUCIXUMJrUuqwmMnXNSyL9SoCprkaAsqAEALw_wcB
hk blues Posted August 5 Posted August 5 We also have powder coated galvanized steel gutters around 75% of the house - we will make it 100% when we complete our next project. They cope with the majority of rain but when the rain is extremely heavy and on for a few hours they struggle - this only happens once a year, maybe twice. Partly this problem is self-inflicted as we have one gutter run evacuating rain from two roofs but it's too difficult to retro fix this so we'll live with it.
