I would support this also but can see that it would be all but unenforceable.

MANILA — Seventy six percent or almost 8 out of 10 Filipino favor the banning of cellphones in schools, according to a Pulse Asia survey commissioned by Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian.

Respondents were asked: "How much do you agree or disagree with the cellphone ban in schools?"

"Based on the results of the survey conducted from June 17-24, 2024, 76 percent of 1,200 adult respondents nationwide agree with having a cellphone ban inside schools. Thirteen percent said they disagree, while 11 percent said they cannot say whether they agree or disagree," Gatchalian said Tuesday.

In June, Gatchalian filed Senate Bill 2706, which seeks to ban the use of mobile devices and other electronic gadgets during class hours from kindergarten to senior high school in all public and private institutions.

Gatchalian — who chairs the Senate Committee on Basic Education — had cited studies from other countries that say excessive use of mobile devices negatively affects learner performance. From the office of Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian

The result of the commissioned Pulse Asia survey made public Tuesday also found that support for the cellphone ban was seen across all socioeconomic classes and locations.

Eighty percent of respondents from Class ABC support cellphone ban in schools, while 66 percent from class D and 71 percent from class E back the proposal.

In terms of location, 8 out of 10 respondents in the National Capital Region (80 percent), Balance Luzon (79 percent), and Mindanao (81 percent) agree to the proposal. Six out of 10 (61 percent) of respondents from Visayas, on the other hand, agree with banning cellphones in schools.

The private school where I used to mentor students after class always collected phones in the morning.  They were allowed to use them again during the lunch break only.
