This afternoon we were dropping one daughter at Taekwondo then picking up the other daughter at school and taking her to gymnastics.  The route takes us past the 3 biggest hospitals in the Subic area.  There were ambulances zipping around all over the place, and I was worried there might have been a major accident on the zig zag road from SBMA to Barrio Barreto, which was also on our route.

Turns out it was this.  Major food poisoning incident at Traveler's Hotel in SBMA.  I have been there many times for events.  They have two huge ballrooms suitable for large events.

This is from Facebook.  I did not find a regular article yet.

Food poison affects 127 Barangay officials in Subic Freeport

By Jonas Reyes

Subic Bay Freeport - Around 127 Barangay officials, mostly from the Sangguniang Kabataan, were allegedly affected by food poisoning during a seminar inside a hotel here on Tuesday.

According to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), the 127 victims are part of a Gender And Development (GAD) seminar being held at the Travelers Hotel.

The seminar, organized by the local government of San Carlos City in Pangasinan, was attended by more than 300 participants including Mayor Julian Rosuello.

The incident occurred after lunch when some of the victims were vomitting or having watery stools.

66 of the victims were admitted, with some discharged after taking some medications.

The incident has left most hospitals within the area full, including the James L Gordon Memorial Hospital, Baypoint Hospital, and St. Jude.

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), led by the Public Health and Safety Department (PHSD), Fire Department, and the Law Enforcement Department are currently investigating the incident.

Travelers Hotels Director of Sales and Marketing Jorgen Michael Te said that the hotel is closely coordinating with the authorities to ensure the health and safety of the victims. He added that the hotel will shoulder the medical expenses of the victims.

"We already have sent specimen samples to Pampanga to determine what caused the illness," he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rosuello expressed his gratitude to the quick response from the SBMA, Olongapo City local government led by Mayor Lenj Paulino, Barangay emergency units and the Philippine National Red Cross.

LUNCH MIGHT BE CULPRIT IN SUBIC FOOD POISONING SAGA
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE - Well into the night of Tuesday, August 6, ambulances were still busy returning and fetching patients, allegedly victims of food poisoning, to and from the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel here.
The patients, around 130 officers of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of San Carlos City, Pangasinan, are billeted at the Travelers Hotel and other nearby accommodations for a seminar on Gender and Development (GAD).
They were rushed to Baypointe Hospital in the freeport, and to the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (JLGMH), Saint Jude's Hospital and the ZMMG Hospital, all in Olongapo City for treatment after they complained of stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting and nausea a few hours after lunch, hotel and city officials said.
Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr, personally led response to those hospitalized at JLGMH.
'The initial assessment was food poisoning, and the victims started coming into the hospital by 3 pm," the mayor said.
At least 80 San Carlos City SK officers received medical attention at the JLGMMH.
Paulino Jr. said the local tertiary hospital's resources and personnel were“spread thin” during the crush of patients, but he assured the public that they will continue to take care of incoming patients.
Meanwhile, officers from various Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) departments were at the Travelers Hotel, assisting the hotel in addressing the alleged food poisoning incident.
Water samples were taken for testing by Subic Water while SBMA inspected the hotel's kitchen, and took other food samples for testing.
Michael Te, marketing director of the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel said samples of the lunch served to the delegates were promptly sent to a government laboratory in Pampanga for testing.
A male SK delegate who was released from JLGMH late in the afternoon, told the Freeport Insider they were served lunch of fried chicken, caldereta and chopseuy by 11:30 am. At around 1:30pm he started suffering from stomach pain, took some medicine before he was brought to the hospital and did not need other medication.
"Other delegates were not as lucky, suffering diarrhea and vomiting," said the SK officer who asked not to be named or photographed.
Investigations regarding the incident are continuing as of this report. (FREEPORT INSIDER)

Bring yer own....Cook yer own when most possible....and never ever drink the water.

Many places offer the "Process of Cook to Watch".... only places our family eats out at anymore.

That's a pretty restrictive way of living, though - most would consider it impractical and unrealistic.

Not for us after seeing too many violations of unenforced nonexistent Health Codes here.
