ILOILO CITY — A total of 13,468 beneficiaries of the social pension program for the elderly in Western Visayas have been delisted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Iloilo recorded the highest number of senior citizens removed from the program with 5,324, followed by Negros Occidental with 3,282, Capiz with 1,594, Aklan with 1,494, Antique with 1,308, and Guimaras with 466.

"We know there are more elderly who need the pension. There are senior citizens who do not have families who can support them. Worse, they also do not have pensions from the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), or other entities," said DSWD-6 Director Carmelo Nochete.

"They are the ones who should be prioritized under the social pension program," he added.

The DSWD-6 said it reviewed the validation of the recipients over the past months, resulting in the delisting of senior citizens who were erroneously included in the program.

The DSWD-6 said 1,327 were found to have pensions from the SSS and GSIS, 830 were receiving honorarium or salary, 331 were receiving regular support from their family, and the rest had either died, transferred residence or could not be located.

Under the social pension program, beneficiaries receive P1,000 per month, totaling P6,000 per semester.

"The purpose of the program is to augment the daily subsistence and medical requirements of the beneficiaries, reduce the incidence of hunger among them, and mitigate the causes of neglect, abuse or deprivation among indigent senior citizens," Nochete added.

The P1,000 per month under the social pension program isn't much.  It is meant for the elderly who have no other income such as SSS, GSIS, family, savings, etc.  It sounds like the "delisting" is for persons who have other income sources and are double dipping by applying for the social person program.

Imagine acting 'dishonestly' for the princely sum of 1,000php a month.

True, so why did congress just pass House Bill 10423 a couple of months ago.

HB 10423 seeks to expand the current social pension program to include all seniors, not just indigents.

Are you asking me to provide a logical explanation regarding a Philippines Act of Congress?
