Some of you may know of RFK Jr. and / or have seen his recent speech.  This is not a political post.  I don't agree with him on many topics but I admire his dedication and perseverance to put human, and especially American, health, at the top of priorities.  The statistics support his alarmism.

He is a long time environmentalist, fighting against big pharma and big ag and big food.  In the last 5 years, I improved my health by cutting a lot of junk out of my life and trying to eat more healthy, natural foods.  Especially meat.  I find that I am very aligned with the things he is saying, whereas, 20 years ago, I may have scoffed at this type of information.

The statistics are very scary for our children.  Especially for the U.S., we know about obesity, diabetes, and all the related diseases. I was shocked when I heard the statistics he was quoting for autism.  I looked them up and they appear to be right.  In the year 2000, 1 in 3500 U.S. kids were diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).  Now, 1 in 36!  And California, 1 and 22!  How can we survive as a species?

That being said, some of the increase can be attributed to better diagnosis, etc., but certainly not all.  I have to agree with him that much of it must come from bad nutrition and exposure to harmful chemicals.  Also, some forms of autism are livable, but of course, not the ideal human condition.

How can we right the ship?  There are huge corporations what would like to maintain the status quo and maintain their bottom line.  Thoughts?

I couldnt agree more.   I actually got on a health kick (diet and exercise) back in the early 80s with no regrets.   Of course mixed in my "healthy lifestyle" were hundreds of times being completely inebriated with my friends and comrades in arms (that was for my mental health).  I havent been to a mcdonalds in about 40 years, have never eaten at Jolly bee.  If one looks at the ingredients of the foods on the shelves it would be impressive if we knew what a fraction of what we are putting in our bodies actually is.  I dont go overboard though and still enjoy greasy/butter buffalo wings with my beer etc...  everything in moderation.   Did battle cancer about 23 years ago, but am attributing that to chemical weapons in Iraq (Government actually sent me notification I was in an area where chemical weapons were detected).   I am 63, and am not on any medications at all.  But to each their own, ya gotta be happy!!

Many members here are older, and as you age, it is more likely that you have a health incident or two or three.  Many times, that is the kick in the ass you need to change bad habits, bad  eating, etc.  Sometimes, a person does nothing, and will face the consequences.  So be it.  Adults make choices.  Unfortunately, choices are often made with bad information.

However, with kids, it is different.  They need to be protected from powers who do not have there best interest in mind.  And parents are often duped into believing something is healthy for their kids, when it is not.  As a big example, consider the food pyramid that has been pushed by the U.S. government for many years.  Turns out, it is very wrong and was heavily influenced by big corporations who had profits in mind, not health.  There are many similar examples that are very sinister.

I searched You Tube for a non-political video with RFK talking about health.  One of the first that popped up was with Dr. Mark Hyman, a good doc I follow.  I have only watched a few minutes but it looks promising.

I couldn't agree more. Something has changed and there are many possible sources. Not only autism and diabetes but so many auto immune diseases. Never heard of gluten allergy 30 years ago, now becoming very common. Big pharma is happy to peddle pills to treat the symptoms but nobody seems interested in finding the root causes.

I have long thought people just eat too much. What they eat certainly plays into it, processed foods etc but too much food and little physical activity plays a big role.

We were looking thru some old family photo albums this summer. Many photos 50 or more years old and we noticed there were no fat people in the family back then. Most ate what they grew or could afford and all worked. Now some people say they have some hormone, gland problem or mental issue that makes them fat. I had a cousin tell me she just can't lose weight even after trying several different diets and going to the gym. I suggested finding out what diet those people in Auschwitz were on as it seemed to be 100% effective.

Dr. Mark Hyman,

I looked him up and was pleasantly surprised to see he was not one of the 99.9 percent of quack doctors or nutritionists you find on the web.  His diet seems reasonable and logical.   I have always been more than amazed at the billions of dollars individuals/corporations are making selling specific diets etc.   It really really is not that difficult.  Moderation! - stay away from sugar, soda, saturated fats, highly processed foods etc. etc.  Fruits, veggies, fish, beans/lentils etc...  And get off the FN couch and get your heart beating, work up a sweat.  It doesnt mean if you have a big juicy cheeseburger and fries every now and then you are going to be killing yourself.  Just make that the exception vs the rule.   It really is that simple.  Lastly, it is rarely never too late to make a change.

Think back to when you were a kid. How many kids in your school were obese, diabetes, childhood cancer, allergies, autism, adhd, or were on some kind of meds such as ridulin or SSRI's?  My school had maybe 3 or 4 out of 100. I was one. A sickly kid with many allergies.

On another note, at the new Opus Mall today. Just ate the best bulalo I have ever had at TRES.

I had a crap load of allergies, as well as asthma growing up.  For some reason, I outgrew them both.   Got kind of burned out on Bulalo, but still enjoy it.  I prefer the pork 'version' Nilaga baboy now.    And yeah, there were not as many sickly/obese kids back in the day.   I went back to the US awhile back and noticed that about 70 percent of ALL commercials were DRUGS.   I vividly remember thinking, holy fck is our entire country on medication.   Just listening to the possible side effects should get people off their ass and take better care of themselves, but sadly that is not the case.  And folks remember, most of these people taking these drugs are OUR generation.   Drug corporations/board members are for sure taking advantage and need to be called out.... Where is Morley Safer, Mike Wallace and 60 minutes when you need them!!
