I can tell you that as a guy with type 2 diabetes, the only thing that works for me is the keto diet. Not many carbs, all protein and vegetables.

I refused to take pills to control the diabetes and after a ton of research(years ago) I did the diet and it works. No more diabetes. But if I start eating crap again, the sugars go up.

I am noticing that after having been here over year now, that the only place I can get any decent food is the market (I say me but my wife does the buying to avoid the skin tax). Grocery store food is loaded with all of the crap.

I would suspect the level of diabetes in this country is staggering considering the poor food choices they have and the lack of money they have to buy quality food. All the bad stuff is dirt cheap.

I eat keto, too. It is challenging to get enough high quality protein deep in the province.  We found a lady at the market in   Sindangan who took a shining to me and gives us a discount on deboned chicken breasts because we buy so much. I also feel better when I'm there because the total volume of food I eat is lower.

I am able to buy imported meat but it is super expensive here.  Eggs are a big part of my diet.

From what I have observed (here in the jungle), I'd have to disagree with you on that one.

Same here, my wife grew up in a very very poor family (still poor), and there are times their meal is just rice with salt.   Soda and cheap candy are consumed as much as possible.

The beef sucks here, but it should be easy to get pork and all kinds of fish?   Are these not available in your area?

For some reason beans, especially dry beans which contain a lot of protein are not available.

I agree with everything you said (abv only exception), especially the white rice and junk foods.  The poor here have horrible diets and probably the highest concentration of diabetes.  Hard to get a stat on that because a vast majority of the poor literally never go to a real doctor.   As far as no beans available, "mongo beans" are almost a staple when it comes to everyday meals, and available just about everywhere; nutritious, fiber, and protein

I'm on the Keto diet too 3.5 years. I eat 4 large eggs scrambled with Cheddar cheese with Kimchi for breakfast every morning.

In south Luzon around where I live I rarely see mung beans eaten, don't see them in the market much either. I've never seen my wife's family prepare them. Guess it depends on where one is located.

Next time I want the house to myself I'll try that but probably use boiled eggs for more effect.
