earthdome Posted September 23 Author Posted September 23 There was a second problem with my ticket. The number code did not match thr UVVRP violation written on the ticket. We found that out when we went to pay the 500php fine written on the ticket at SM Pay. Clerk said we owed 1000php instead of 500 because the code was for something different. I was willing to just pay it instead of driving to MMDA office, try to park and queue in a long line. But my other half got all riled up about the problem and insisted I not pay the fine at all. I countered with thats fine for you but if we don't pay I WILL be the Pasig outlaw! So we compromised with me being her driver while she went inside to handle it at the MMDA office. Of course there was no parking so like any good hired driver I drove around the area for 90 minutes waiting for the boss. In the end we paid 500php and I learned some new streets in the area.
earthdome Posted September 23 Author Posted September 23 Hey, is waiting in the drivers lounge at an SM parking garage the same as getting put out in the dog house?

OnMyWay Posted September 24 Posted September 24 My wife became an outlaw this evening. She got clamped! They have a thriving clamping program in Olongapo now. Was supposed to be p2500 fine and she negotiated it down to p2000.

As I understand it, she parked near a corner in such a way that it hindered traffic? I will have her show me next time we are over there. She was at a tailor we are using. I have parked there and she says it was the same spot, but I stayed in the car, as usual. They have a thriving clamping business. In addition to the clamp, they put a tape on the door that says "do not open or drive", or something like that. The guy who clamped her came by and she was able to talk to him. She took a trike to City Hall and they have a traffic office there, open 24/7. She only had p1000 with her and pleaded for them to lower it. He gave p500 discount. They have a radio there and she listened to all the violations being called in. So then she has to take the paper to the hospital to pay. Yes, the hospital. The city has a 24 hour cashier there. So she paid, and almost instantly, the clamp was removed. Long before she got back to the car via trike. The funny thing was, at each stage, clamp guy, office and hospital, the person she was dealing with grilled her with personal questions, in true Filipino style. "Why did you park there?". "Where do you live?" "Why do you have a Western last name?". Etc. Basically for gossip purposes only.

I recall an old news article about the national government hiring European traffic experts to find ways to alleviate traffic in Metro Manila. Their recommendation was to build parking structures. Many who can afford to buy a car can also afford to hire a driver. The driver's duties include driving around slowly in circles while their "Amo" attended meetings or ran errands. If the car was in a parking structure, that's one less car on a busy street. Edited September 24 by JJReyes

Our discussion moves to wondering how long she will be and if she buys a handbag or shoes.

If there is any bright side to your misfortune OMW, is that there was not a guy standing there with his hand out so with a wink and a nod and a swift 500p changing hands your good lady is unclamped and away. I understand it was a pain for your wife, but I would rather live in a town where justice is not for sale like it is in my city.
