OnMyWay Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Not the best laptop but probably ok for some users. You can't get a laptop here in PH for less than p10,000. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Micro-edge-Microsoft-14-dq0040nr-Snowflake/dp/B0947BJ67M/ref=sr_1_3?crid=12CUL3GMO9KZ5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.iFNCIz2JG5Qml8qxYx1Be_vO1QHV8o3r4h1xMcg3ykkeB84l-NBtyASay-_vAcJeIn7eaB4vNbmpXNTf-8jolS-5BiT1wu9FgTR2EAlkg-UxRTp4SntjmOdeRiz-EGNcdX3bBuymKmBsAW5A855LWY9Ekw3tCBExELPVI0SLrZxd7GcRlE2A1AR-T7Tl_N73UGJ32sJKHLyDIJfnkIgqdNpjRDSem2AtpItsfgr5Eco.nLsbxsNt46FjrtnfSLMHYka2J_w7y06fNiaO2WE5ABM&dib_tag=se&keywords=laptops+on+sale+clearance+2024&qid=1727304842&sprefix=laptop%2Caps%2C288&sr=8-3#customerReviews
BrettGC Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) It lost me at Celeron processor. They've been discontinued. As soon as you start running more than one modern application your system will slow down particularly as it only has 4gig of RAM. It would be okay if you only have one or two browser windows/tabs open and not running anything else at the same time. Celeron was always a discount processor and performed accordingly and given they haven't been made for over a year now it's doubtful they'll be able to handle new/latest update programmes for long if at all. People would be better served paying a couple of extra bucks and forking out for even a 10th gen or higher i3 processor with 8gig of RAM. Its lifespan would be much longer. A decent tablet would actually be a better option than a Celeron as software for them is optimised for the mobility processing chips they use. Yes, but a few bucks more, then over p10,000 and no more free shipping plus duties and taxes. It is even hard to find a decent tablet here for that much. My be ok for kids or old farts. For myself, I would buy a better one. I was looking at laptops after reading the Johnny Air thread. In 2021, I bought a Lenovo tablet at Silicon Valley for 207 usd which is about p11500 right now. After Amazon started free shipping, I bought another tablet for about p5000. Prices for laptops and tablets are way too high in the Philippines. I'm not really up to date on processors, etc. Do you have any recommendations in the 300-400 usd range on Amazon? I was thinking about going with HP this time. My current Dell, purchased in 2017, has some durability issues. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=laptops&i=electronics&crid=2SN2OWVTTEH2B&sprefix=laptops%2Celectronics%2C356&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
graham59 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 I have a 2006 Dell D620, and a 2011 Dell XPS 17. Both still going strong. Both on Windows 10. I have fixed any 'issues', and upgraded them myself though, through the years...kuripot that I am.

The main problem with mine is that the screen went kaput a few years ago so I have been using it with an external monitor. Now it also has a glitch with something in the power system, and I get a bios message when booting, usually. Then the computer crawls, but after some time, it speeds up. No need to fix what isn't broken and no need to replace something if it is still doing the job.

Have you tried putting in a new CMOS battery ?

Especially trying to run Windows.
GeoffH Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) Brett is correct, give anything with a Celeron and/or 4Gb of RAM a miss, they don't meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11 and Windows 10 is not long for this world. If you have no option but to stay under 10000 then you could look at Chromebooks, they've got much lighter hardware requirements. Nb they're a browser based operating system and not Windows based so if you want to do something that you can't do in a web browser they're not for you. When I get this, everything slows down to a crawl, then later it will seem to recover.
