Cataracts quote from Eptomologist

I have been quoted 100k to get my cataracts removed by the suction method.

So it got me thinking about how I could get it done in Australia for nothing because I am a veteran.

Of course I would have to pay for the airfare with but at least I have the option.

Usually I would mull this over a beer or 3 but those days gone.

Their having a lend of you, change hospitals. The wife paid for a friend awhile back, 15k per eye and no worries

Yes in Manila somewhere, didn’t enlighten us, but it must have worked she can spot us a mile off, never returned the loan.

I have two friends who have had cataract surgery at Doctor Hospital in Cebu City.  Both are very pleased with the results.  The both spent extra for the lens that allows both distant and near vision.  Not sure if below reflects that lens or current prices.  This is where I will get mine done when my cataract becomes an issue.

Prices per Google;

The cost of cataract surgery at Cebu Doctors University Hospital in the Philippines includes the hospital fee and the cost of anesthesiologist services:
Hospital fee
The estimated cost for routine cataract surgery under local anesthesia is around 35,000 pesos.
Anesthesiologist services
If conscious sedation is requested, the additional cost for the hospital and anesthesiologist is around 45,000 pesos or more. 
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) also offers a cataract package that pays 16,000 pesos for cataract extraction procedures. This applies to all applicable health care providers, regardless of whether the procedure is done in an outpatient or inpatient setting.

I like the price... but the "suction method" sounds tricky to me... "suction" with what???... they have to insert a new lens anyway... lets just go slow here... I only have two eyes

Never heard of that "suction method" before. I had both my cataracts removed by Laser and mono-lens (single lens) inserted: Cost p47,000 per eye.

Including Phil-Health p16,000 discount.

Never heard it called the "suction method" either though they do vacuum out the lens pieces after being cut with a laser.

Jim, I got the information from a local who like most people in this province isn’t that good with English.

So I guess I should be lucky that I managed to get  some information from him at all..

which is why I will  get it done elsewhere.
